We would like to express our gratitude to the city of New York, and to the New York Police Department, for providing their services and ensuring that this Procession went as smoothly as possible. All health and CDC guidelines were implemented and followed to the maximum extent possible. All attendees wore face coverings and practiced social distancing wherever possible. All attendees joined the procession at their own discretion, and were advised to stay home if they were unwell, and/or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms. Temperature checks, Hand Sanitizer, and face masks were handed out throughout the procession.

This practice of chest beating is typically performed on one’s self. Everyone who partakes in this practice does so at their free will. There is no obligation to do such. However, there are instances in which an individual may wish to express his grief but can not physically do so. For example, an individual that is handicapped, but wants to express his grief. in that case then yes someone else can hit another individual but it is typically done very gently. The goal of this practice isn’t self harm, but more so to serve and symbolize the grief that the lovers of the family of the Prophet of Islam feel regarding the tragedies that befell the family. Wow they are worshiping their God. Not all the Shias are false God worshiper. We Sunni we just pray to Allah because that way Hazrat Hussain (ra) death was written. So we don't mourn we just pray for Hussain (ra) soul.

Our god is Allah (SWT), it is through the Prophet and his family that we recognize god. Islam’s most fundamental principle is the oneness of god. Just because we are grieving the martyrdom of Imam Hussain AS, doesnt mean we believe him as our god. Please educate yourself. Jazakallah
