It’s not always about the amount of the salary! Yes a bedside nurse can make alottttt but you are literally stressed and overworked! I rather have a 9-5 have every weekend off and all holidays off! I rather do my assessments, prescribe medications and not be running a floor for 12 hours!!

NP residency for 1 year which was 70K, a huge sacrifice as I was an RN for nearly 20 years and was earning over 100K 10 years ago. After NP residency, the initial salary was 120K, and by the end of that year 123K plus, the following year 124K plus, then boom 146K with a potential for 154K plus this year based on a quality project. We have about 320 hours of PTO per year, CME 3K (takes care of DEA, license renewal, etc)+ 40 hours for conferences which can be online or elsewhere. We are salaried, and lunch is as you go-since we work 12-hour shifts. 401K is a 6% company match, Roth 6% company match, and pension per company once you hit 3 years and are considered vested. My NP Psych colleagues and hospitalists are in the 160K to 180K plus range. Forgot to mention life insurance is 2x your pay, medical is free for the employee with $300 for the entire family. We are military so Tricare is still free and get paid extra for not taking medical and dental. Shhh! Don't tell anyone:)) but let them know - God is good:))

Plus I am reimbursed for my licenses, supplies such as stethoscopes and scrubs/shoes if I choose to wear them which I sometimes do and membership on professional organizations. Plus I get 7 weeks vacation and a couple of thousand a year to earn CEs which I sometimes use to take my husband and myself on trips. I would love to make more of course but I certainly make more as an NP than I did as an RN with no shifts/weekends/nights/holidays and much less physically demanding.

I live in Atlanta and just got accepted into FNP program at Georgia State so I’ve been researching scope of practice laws and salary etc; I’ve been having a hard time after Covid because as a travel nurse I averaged 160k a year for 2 years straight. Now as a local travel nurse I make about $45-$55 an hour working PRN jobs and I’ve been learning how to make “regular” money again . Bedside nursing is exhausting and I was assaulted by a patient last week I said this is why I am done . So as I take my journey to NP I’m needing to learn about how to negotiate my salary. Thank you so much for the transparency and the information you are very beautiful and we need more black NPs in women’s health to advocate for us. Thank you again.

I’m happy for you. Something that a lot of us NPs, especially Family NPs are doing is opening their own practice with a covering physician. The physician just has to cover the practice and you include him or her on what your practice brings in. Many NPs are starting their own businesses. One thing that is big here in Michigan is infusion clinics and weight loss clinics, therefore you can set your own rate; income. No longer are nurses/NPs working for someone else.

Thanks for sharing, Ashley! Thanks for the tips. However, there’s one thing that I would like to point out: It doesn’t look like you’re putting nearly enough money in your 401K. It might be a good way for you to reduce your taxes. If your company offers a Roth 401k, even better. But you won’t get the tax benefits now; at withdrawal time, though, you won’t be taxed. I hope that you’re at least fully funding your Roth IRA or that you have some real estate investments or preferably both.

Firstly, thank you for being so transparent and for the information in the video. I think the NP/PA salaries should be higher but unfortunately, it can never become too high because if an MD doing family medicine is earning 200k-250k the APP is always going to make half of that which is the 100k- 130k arena currently occupied. To pay an APP 180k is almost might as well get an MD at that point. But the salary is in a hard place because the RN salary with overtime is competitive which also feels wrong. Personally over the last decade I've bounced between nursing and truck driver. Whichever is paying best at the time. I'm licensed in both . I'm about to start school to become an APP bur honestly as a truck driver currently im making slightly more than the salary you displayed. I'm making 1500 weekly after deduction. 6k a month and trucking is in a slump right now I use to make 2k a week and 8k a month after deductions.i want to leave trucking to be an APP but it's like 😅 the only thing pushing me to do it is I love medicine and science at this point.

Where do you live? I make 55/hour as an RDH- 80k a year, but the NP in my area are killing it making 140k a year. Lmao the way all RDH are switching to nursing. I graduate 2 years too:)

@@dpaper7962i agree with you that there are associates that earn a good living, however to make it into the six figures without busting your tush 6 days a week- its graduate level for healthcare providers. NP in NYC are earning an amazing living working only 3 days a week

Good evening. Do you contribute to a 401k, HSA, or anything like that? It helps tax savings tremendously and also provides an opportunity to invest/prepare for retirement.

Hi Ashley, please I'm a RN (Bsc nursing) I'm very confused as to what field specialise in. Or to do MPhil and progress and PhD and teach at a university or something Or to go to med school Please help me

Ok so from looking at those check stubs all the extra money you negotiated for in pay went to taxes and deductions. There was only $100 difference in what went in your wallet.

I work as an attendant in a casino in Vegas. I have 4 yr degree and I just made $130,000 last year and some of my coworkers didn’t even finish high school and we all make the same. Some of us make more because they like to work overtime when busy.

Thank you for being truthful. It’s some crazy RN woman claiming to make this type of money part time. Telling people she works 3 days a week, but RNs typically work 3 days a week. Glad you’re not one of those click bait people out to make a check any means.

Are you talking about Tawanda? She posted her check, and talked about the services she does. If you're talking about someone else, then i don't know.

I have a quick question. I became a LPN at a young age of 19. I still don’t know how college life work and stuff. May someone help me out on like how I can manage my outpatient work Monday-Friday 7-5 and still be able to go to school? I would love to be a PNP. Please and thank you. I know it will be a lot of money and that’s okay, I’m just curious. 🥰
