This is Part 3 from my Nagaland web series where I woke up in Asia's first green village Khonoma.

Khonoma is an Angami Naga village located about 20 km west of the state capital, Kohima. The village is referred to as Khwuno-ra. The total population of the village is about 1943, settled in 424 households. It is the first green village in India
My trip to Nagaland from December 4 to December 10, 2018 was organized by ChaloHoppo, a travel company that specializes in crafting authentic local experiences in Northeast India. During this trip, I stayed at Camp Yedikha in Jakhama village. ( / camp_yedikha ) and visited the villages of Dzuleke and Khonoma. This experience was raw and nothing like anything I have experienced before."

Mind blowing vlog. Can't wait for Dzukou part. Btw the entire village of Khonoma was destroyed and burnt down to ashes in the late 50s by Indian troops(which they won't tell to Indian tourists because it's uncomfortable) You can see it being written in one of the monoliths erected in the memory of those who lost their lives in this attack by Indian troops. Things have changed now and it's very difficult for the native people to even think about the dark years of 50s and 60s when they were invaded by Indian troops. Just sharing a fact, nothing against my dear Indian brothers. Peace!! Jai Hind!

I have been to Khonoma in 2016 and walked through the same trail as you have.. but I never knew the history of that place from a local. Thanks to your local guide and ofcourse you :) I remember watching the Khonoma river, the flowery private gardens, pet ducks, the lush green paddy terraces, the real horns of a bull/cow kept in the verandah of a house, a room housing their cooking utensils from a time of their ancestors and majestic gates! The only discomfort I had was while clicking pictures since though an ethnic, traditionally preserved village, Khonoma actually has a living population who are entitled to their privacy. They are very friendly and probably used to seeing tourists every now and then.
