The man was an Entertainer and his voice was so good and smooth. I miss music like this today.

Nat King Cole....the man with the velvet voice. His voice was so smooth. Truly an iconic and legendary singer! My parents loved him and I remember seeing his tv show in the 50's. We'd watch the show as a family. Great memories! Thanks guys!

I love it. He don't much like rock 'n' roll, but he uses the 50's teen jive rock 'n' roll talk to explain his position, just Great!

You both caught the fact that this is a novelty cut by Nat King Cole -- most by the entertainer than the singer -- having fun with his audience while making a statement (as Asia well put it) that he is going to stay in his musical lane in spite of the changing times. The missing piece here that I think most young listeners lack to fully appreciate the nuance of the parody is that in the section of the song which coincidentally follows BJ pause for commentary, the melodies of the songs Nat uses for the obviously comedy/parody lyrics are many of his OWN big crooning hits from the 1950s. They are (in order with beginning time markers): "Pretend" (at 6:22); "Answer Me" (at 6:38); "Too Young" (at 6:55); "Mona Lisa" (at 7:40); and "Nature Boy" (at 8:19). Technically, even I am not old enough to know these songs first hand as I was born in 1962 -- but I have worked hard over many years to go back and learn music recorded well before my time of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, as well as most of the 1960s that I was too young to remember myself when it was happening. The first year of music I clearly remember for myself was 1968 when I was six years old. Building that kind of historical musical knowledge, like everyone is trying to do on this and other reaction channels, is wonderful. Too many young people want to only listen to current music, but in doing so they miss SO much great music and cultural information about the past. Keep up the good work here!

I've been enjoying this song ever since I got it on a cd collection back in the 90's. When Nat recorded this, rock & roll was still fairly new, and he sure had a blast poking fun at it! But he's right, He COULD have rocked and rolled if he wanted to! Many, if not all of these older singers didn't think too much of this newer music, and they were fearful of being overshadowed by it, and for good reason. Nat lived just long enough to see the advent of The Beatles. By the way, there are a lot of references in this song to then common expressions, such as "tomato" which referred to an attractive female, as well as pop culture icons of that time period that may get lost on newer listeners like Asia & BJ. Bravo guys for doing this! Nat King Cole was and is my favorite singer, with his trademark smooth, smoky baritone and perfect diction!

You should listen to his song "Madrid". He also does some duets with Dean Martin that are good.

This was a hilarious production by Nat King Cole to joke about Rock & Roll then joking with his songs like Mona Lisa. A tomato is a girl by the way. He then jokes on Elvis and Frankie Lymon etc. "Nathaniel must refuse ya". Iconic is correct his songs like Mona Lisa and Answer Me My Love etc were special and he was one of the most beloved singers ever. Remember he could if he wanted though.

I’m new to y’all’s channels, but your reactions to Reba McEntire’s music is how I found y’all. Reba actually does a song with Nat King Cole’s daughter Natalie Cole..it’s called Since I fell for you. If your like Reba’s voice and her range..I’m tellin y’all..check out this song!!!! It highlights Reba’s more soulful side💯 frfr. You both will LOVE IT!!!!

Remember he says "you have to play Rock or else you go in Hock". But he still won't Rock & Roll. The remastered version eliminated the scratching especially but the band on the original sounds the same. Mr Cole had an elite band. As good as it gets.

Nat King Cole was my mum's favourite. She was a Londoner. If you get a chance please watch the movie Cat Balou, a comedy western, with Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye as wandering minstrels singing short songs through the film.

Love love love Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole too! Nat was one of my parents favorites so I grew up through the 60s and 70s hearing a lot of his music. I have to agree with my parents opinion, Sinatra couldn't hold a candle to Nat King Cole.
