Elvis’ movie Blue Hawaii was so popular because This classic came out when Hawaii became a new state in the US! The Polynesian people really respected Elvis. He didn’t just do the movie and leave. He played the largest concert in recorded history there “aloha from Hawaii” let everyone in for FREE, then asked the audience for donations for a local cancer fund for a the family of a famous local Hawaiian singer and actor

Thank you very much for this amazing information! He was such a great human being!

Thanks, that's good context for others who forget that Hawaii had to officially become a state not that long ago. That said, it wouldn't rank as the largest concert in recorded history anymore. Not with things like Metallica getting 1.6 million people in Moscow, or U2 getting 2 million in Ireland.
@williamquinlan6153 Жыл бұрын
@@s.mcpherson6354 the concert he mentioned is referred to as the Aloha from Hawaii concert which was the first of its kind to be simulcast all over the world by satellite. The audience was estimated at 1 billion plus in '73.
@stevepomeroy-rockin-pa-realtor Жыл бұрын
@@s.mcpherson6354 Elvis got 1.75+ Billion - the first satellite 📡 worldwide broadcast for a concert by a renowned Musician. More people saw Aloha From Hawaii than saw Neil Armstrong walk on the moon 🌙. Fact.
@s.mcpherson6354 Жыл бұрын
@@williamquinlan6153 Yes, I'm very familiar with it. But he wrote: "He played the largest concert in recorded history there," which means the largest concert, not the largest TV audience. If he meant that, it would have been clearer to say "he recorded the concert there, and it was broadcast to, at that time, the biggest TV audience in history. And it held that record until concerts like Live Aid, which included many musicians, not just one." I'm not trying to take anything away from Elvis. But as a concert, it doesn't hold that record anymore. And frankly, as a former TV executive, the numbers back then were who they broadcast to. Very few countries had ratings boxes to tell them who was watching what, so those were guesses more than real numbers. But that doesn't take anything away from Elvis's very real worldwide appeal, or the concert's very real historical significance. I just enjoy clarity in language in this era of people being easily misunderstood.

Ha! The "old" lady at the beginning of the video, the husband called her "Mother" (she called him "Father"), is Angela Lansbury of "Murder, She Wrote". And she is all of 36 years old in this movie in 1961 (she was a year older than my mom). Elvis played her son while he was really only 10 years younger in real life (Elvis was 2 years younger than my dad).

I've missed your guys' Elvis reactions. It's refreshing to enjoy this one. The dynamic in this scene is that the parents of Elvis's character wants him to join the family business but he wants to start one of his own with his girlfriend. His girlfriend is indigenous which his mother may be resistant to. I'd like to request a reaction to the medley from the 68 Special which includes samples of Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, and All Shook Up. In black leather it's very dynamic! Or you might consider the video for Mean Woman Blues which is an even better Elvis scene from the movie Loving You '57. Then you'll really see moves!

Ha! Those 60's Elvis movies were fun, but they sure kept him out of music for much of the 60s till he finally got fed up. That 'Colonel' manager of his just wanted to keep the checks coming in. When Elvis came back he hit hard - Kentucky Rain, In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds... It's cool to have his fun little 60's movies around, but wish he'd have stayed in the studio doing great tunes. When John Lennon was a teenager in the 1950s he thought Elvis was awsome. After the Beatles became famous John wanted to meet Elvis, although Elvis didnt feel the same way about the Beatles. I remember seeing two of Elvis's concerts on TV that was broadcasted live. One in 1968 and the other in 1970. In 1968 Elvis appeared on stage in a black leather jacket. I was 8 years old at the time, I thought he was super cool. I think that was the same year he did a movie with Mary Tyler Moore. My grandparents didnt like Elvis, they said he was a slob. They were more into Andy William's, Laurence Welk, Perry Como and Bing Crosby.

When the Beatles met Elvis in '65 there was no resistance and no animosity. The remarks from both parties for that meeting was favorable. Neither Presley nor the Beatles said anything differently. A contradictory statement was put out by a press agent trying to sell a book who had no info or personal contact with the parties. It just became another urban myth.

Elvis had a bunch of great songs from movies he starred in. Unfortunately the movies themselves weren't exactly great, really cheesy. He got really tired of these films and really wanted much better roles, but Colonel Parker wouldn't let him. Here are some really good movie tunes to check out. Of course "Viva Las Vegas" and "Jailhouse Rock", "Return To Sender", "Wooden Heart", "Shoppin' Around", "Follow That Dream", "Mexico", "Poison Ivy League", "Puppet On A String", "Fun In Acapulco", and "Doin' The Best I Can". Elvis was the man! Since you mentioned his legs moving, I think I suggested before that you guys really need to watch the official video of Elvis Costello doing "Pump It Up". I promise you guys will get a kick out of it.
