There's a reason why Aretha is the Queen of Soul! I grew up with her, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, James Brown. How did I get so lucky??!! ❤

Saw an interview that Aretha gave where she talked about writing this song. She admitted she wrote it with her current beau at the time, Dennis Edwards ( singer with the Temptations) in mind. I have always loved this song. Thanks for reacting to this. R.I.P. Queen of Soul.

On one of her later slbums (maybe the last, but im not sure) there's another daydream song, "Just my Daydream". It's also good (Luther Vandross produced), and might be an interesting comparison. Also, Corinne Bailey Rae covers this. Her softer, more girlish voice gives it a different feel. Like when Aretha sings it i feel like the "where i dont care" is Paris or some tropical island, and when Corinne sings it, it's to the amusement park or ice cream shop.

Yes prior to the 1980s.. they would have literally dozens of musicians at times in the studio playing a variety of real instruments.. but when the 80s came in electronic sounds started to begin to take over to replace drums, primarily and then also other real instruments were replaced by synthesized sounds to imitate instruments..which is less cost than bringing in 12 people... So pop and RB..left off real instruments..
