One of the best of the songs from the classic lineup of Van Halen. I only saw the original lineup once but David Lee Roth was so drunk that he couldn't perform and it was a two hour wait for their set after the Scorpions played and a long hot day at a festival so most everyone in that 300,000+ crowd was heading for the gates in disappointment. Eddie Van Halen had a vibe and a persona that generated a mystique about him before the era of digital media, online chat rooms and official websites. The only way to learn something new about the band, Ed's technique or how he designed his guitars was through magazines and rare on camera interviews. Europeans had more tv exposure to VH than Americans did back in the day. There wasn't the danger of over exposure. It left a little of the mystique intact. There was never a single individual who more redefined what it meant to be a rock guitar legend than Eddie. He did more to expand the vocabulary of the instrument, introduce new techniques, sound and guitar tone than any guitarist who ever lived. VH redefined big arena rock for decades to come. They were the gold standard that everybody is still chasing to this day. Ed had it all. His hair, his unique guitar graphics, his playing style, his stage presence and swagger--it was a combination of things wrapped into one individual. He had a "thing" most people just don't have. His peers envied and admired him. His fans were energized and inspired by him, and he had a profound impact on the art of rock guitar playing. You can't explain the phenomenon, you can only appreciate him for what he was in his time.

Love that you guys discovered Van Halen! It's so cool to see how VH affects someone watching them for the first time. This performance appeared to be a TV performance where they were probably lip-syncing, which made them much more toned down than if they were actually performing live. There's nothing like experiencing VH in person. I've been to many, many of their concerts since the 80's and thankfully got to see them in 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl on their final tour. Thanks for introducing VH to a whole new generation!!

Generally, a good way to tell old school 'live' vs. TV audience 'Live' is the lack of cords for the bass and guitar, there were little to no wireless audio relays back in the late '70s and early '80s, and everyone was dragging a cord around the stage in a real live concert.
@jeffbrewer88872 жыл бұрын
You can also tell because it is a fade-in. Bands don't "fade-in" when they are playing live. Plus, if you are familiar with the album and song, you can tell it is the exact studio version. Plus, at certain times, Eddie and Michael are "singing" the background vocals to themselves, with no microphone near them.

EDDIE VAN HALEN, MY/OUR "GUITAR GOD," CREATED AAAAALL the new guitarists we listen to in Rock today... And, the fact is that HE ACTUALLY STARTED ON DRUMS (and, his brother, Alex, actually started on guitar, but they switched instrumnets WHEN THEY WERE JUST YOUNG BOYS BORN AND LIVING IN HOLLAND before coming to America with their parents who were also musicians, well, their Dad was), and after Eddie took piano lessons, BUT EDDIE NEVER TOOK A GUITAR LESSON, just goes to show this GREAT Man's "god-like" musical prowess, ingenuity, and creativity... As well as the fact that TAKING LESSONS can sometimes keep you "IN THE BOX," as he had said in an interview on YT, WHERE EDDIE ALWAYS THOUGHT, CREATED, AND PLAYED "OUTSIDE THE BOX" JUST BECAUSE he never took a lesson... That ability to not be "grounded" by "normal" guitar-playing techniques and styles is what made him do the AMAZING things he did, musically, as well as to experiment, and "remake" numerous guitars, amplifiers, and "effects" that made his famous "Brown sound" as well as his style of playing, nearly impossible to duplicate, tho, many have tried... lol (Oh, and, btw, Eddie not only did the solo on Michael Jackson's "Beat It" song, but he TOTALLY REARRANGED THE ENTIRE TRACK from what it was to what it IS TODAY, AND HE WANTED NO MONEY OR CREDIT ON THE ALBUM for it, THAT'S GREATNESS!!!) RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN😔 (You've been, and always will be, missed)... Thank you, sir... 🙏🏾😔🔥🎸😇

The greatest fade out in rock history. From the first time I heard I wished it lasted 5 minutes longer.

Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez was David Lee Roths martial arts coach and taught him the kicks.

David Lee Roth was into martial arts and still is. That's why it's so flexible and he does a lot of martial arts gymnastics in his performances.

Audio sounds like the studio version, not live. I hated how they synced to studio tracks on TV shows back then. That's why shows like The Midnight Special were so awesome, because the bands actually performed live.

Yes, DEFINITELY the studio version.

They aren't plugged in. It would be hard to play what was going on live.

@@Tijuanabill Just FYI as far back as the late 70's - certainly in the early 80's - both Telex and Nady had reliable wireless systems in common use. I know, I used them. So the no cables thing isn't a determiner. But thiis IS the studio version beyond doubt.
@Tijuanabill2 жыл бұрын
@@riccampbell Even a wireless has to be plugged in to the instrument. And no, wireless systems still have problems today, which is why few use them playing live. The worst concert I ever went to, was Metallica using them for their cheezy round stage, that lets them sell all the seats.

@@Tijuanabill Not to get into it with you, but literally yesterday at my gig my gtr was wireless via Line 6 Relay, my stage monitors were in-ear wireless via Xvive U4. Everybody - 6 people in the group - were using in-ears wireless, the other guitar, and bassplayer, were wireless with their rigs. The front vocalist runs wireless mic. We do this EVERY show, EVERY time. Wireless is 99% reliable here in 2022. I'd have to fiind the original video that they watched - too small for detail in their little sub-window - so you may be right in this instance. But again - lack of cables means nothing any more, the average bar band runs wireless these days as a matter of routine. Dude - I've been doing this for 50-some years.

When he came back with the band ,On stage he pulled a move like he does and hit nose with the microphone,He tried to hang in there But they halted the show to get hit some med treatment,Then went on with the show ! and it was one of his return back with the band tours ! And this was not so long ago !

David Lee Roth is a ninth degree grand master black belt and an exceptional Japanese swordsman, he's incorporated those moves into his shows for years and it's made all the girls want to be with him and all the guys want to be him!!!!!!!
