I love how Robert Patrick trained himself to breath through his nose only when running. Man is flat sprinting at an insane speed, his chest is barely moving and his mouth is closed. It's easy to think he isn't even breathing. It's a small detail but it gives him such an inhuman look.

The actor who played the T-1000 was actually a college track athlete before getting this role. He did both running scenes. In the one where he was chasing after John on foot, and John was on his dirt bike, James Cameron had to tell him to slow down because he kept catching up to the dirt bike. The two scenes that had two of the same character were filmed with twins.

So on the "why noy just send an army" question... in the original script + novelization for Terminator 2 (before they made more movies) they explained this is because Skynet only managed to get it's time machine working less than an hour before the human rebels defeated it and took over the facility. So in that matter of minutes it barely had time to select its two best units, determine the likely best times to identify and eliminate Sara or John Conner and then power the machine up, send one back, then cool it down, reset it and then power up and send again. This is also why John Conner is so vital to the human victory... it's not just that he was a skilled leader able to lead humanity to victory but that he was able to do it fast enough before Skynet gained the ability to send a nonstop stream of assassins through time to kill any opposition in the past at will. Any change in the timeline that slowed the human plan by even a couple hours would actually result in Skynet being victorious.
@0okamino
@0okamino 7 күн бұрын
I think it’s necessary to rule out a single timeline scenario to make sense of it. It does get rather confusing because the timelines seem to persist and intersect at bootstrap paradoxes. The intersection makes it so that there isn’t a past in which a Terminator doesn’t pursue Sarah and then John, but there can still be some future in which it is prevented. It’s not like we even know how time travel would actually work (if at all), and the effect it could have on causality, anyway.
@DomSithe
@DomSithe 7 күн бұрын
I've always explained it to others that every time a terminator is sent back it changes the timeline and what skynet is, and therefore it can't send more than one back. Skynet needs to react to the changes to the timeline. So it knows how the previous versions Skynet failed, but that's it. And the human side also reacts to this. There is an unseen attempt that was the first time skynet sends someone to the past to do something, and its through that attempt that causes Sarah Conner to become the mother of John who ends up becoming the resistance leader, meaning skynet now decides to try sending back another to deal with Sarah... and so on.
@psymcdad8151
@psymcdad8151 7 күн бұрын
@@0okamino I see it in the way that "5D-Chess" works; There is one original Timeline where John Connor just came to be a natural leader and Skynet was just a random military program. We just don't get to see a lot of that timeline, outside a few shots in T1. Every timeline after this is altered due to Time-Travel; John's dad is now Kyle Reese., and Skynet is invented by Dyson.

"Why can't you just...?" Welcome to the biggest plot hole, though to be fair it's a plot hole in time travel stories, not just the _Terminator_ franchise specifically. For time travel to work like how most stories want it to, you either run into paradoxes like unaliving your grandfather before he meets your grandmother, or you run into contrivances and plot holes like "why don't you just try again?" The only thing that really makes sense is that things happen because they happen; there is no free will, no inexplicable ability to alter the universe through thought. Kyle Reese went back and became John's father because he went back and became John's father. It's what happened, so it's what will happen. Similarly, the war of the future was created in 1984 and erased in 1991 because it was. It's a stable time loop. For an analogy, imagine you're a devoted admirer of Nguyễn Trãi and _Bình Ngô Đại Cáo._ You have it memorized by heart because it's considered one of the greatest declarations of Vietnamese independence, akin to the Gettysburg Address or the U.S. Declaration of Independence. It's considered the second declaration of independence of Vietnam after the poem _Nam quốc sơn hà._ You travel back to the 15th century, intending to witness Nguyễn Trãi composing _Bình Ngô Đại Cáo_ after helping Emperor Lê Lợi drive out the Ming forces. However, to your shock, you find Nguyễn Trãi struggling with writer's block. The proclamation--the very speech that you know as a defining moment of Vietnamese history--has not been written yet. Seeing this, you step in and write the entire _Bình Ngô Đại Cáo_ from memory, handing it to Nguyễn Trãi. He then presents it to the nation, securing its place in history. Fast-forward to the future: young you reads it, memorizes it, and eventually travels back in time to give it to Nguyễn Trãi. Where did _Bình Ngô Đại Cáo_ originate? It exists because it exists--a perfect example of a stable time loop. 🏳‍🌈🖖

Even though nowadays I still like the dark, dirty and gritty first Terminator very much and might prefer the dark and depressed tone actually to the sequel, I was blown away at the time by this masterpiece. Rightfully considered as one of the best sequels ever made. Never seen before FX, a budget off scale with insane (for the time) action scenes. And even a tearjerker scene at the end - who knew that was coming. It was a real experience - less for my Dad though. He didn't think much of Arnold, he just came for me and I really appreciated that. Here's my theory. They program the code that controls the liquid metal into the metal with a different computer. The metal shape shifts into a computer, essentially. So the code is just floating around in the robot body. And if it gets separated, it reboots in each little piece until it reassembles, and can restore the robot to it's last successful save point.

Tien, you and Lan have hit it out of the park again with yet another fantastic reaction to one of THE BEST sequels that has ever been made!! A few points of lore to help with your understanding: One of the things that happens in the Directors cut that didn't make it into the theatrical cut that you watched was when the triple 8, John and Sarah were hiding out at the mechanic shop, after the conversation about the terminator learning more, Sarah made the choice to take the control chip out of the head of the terminator and change a setting that made the terminator more autonomous and therefore he became better at learning things as his experience increased. This played a pivotal role in the terminator's overall effectiveness. you ladies have actually seen that specific m134 minigun, when you watched predator. it literally is the same physical weapon reused in a different film. the m79 grenade launcher uses low velocity 40 mm grenades which have an arming distance of 15 meters in the real world (this helps to protect the user from fragmentation injuries potentially inflicted by their own grenades). There are multiple times in the film where grenades are shot at targets DEFINITELY closer than 15 meters and they still exploded like 'normal'. One of my nitpicky gripes about a still stellar piece of film making. the temperature of the liquid nitrogen is -312 F (-196 C) and while the freezing episode did not destroy the T 1000 outright, it did both slow him down AND damage his system, causing him to glitch and becoming less effective. I don't recall if the scene was in the theatrical cut or not (it wasn't in the youtube version of THIS reaction), but there is a scene where the T 1000 has extremities that begin to mimic things that the terminator doesn't intend to mimic, like the steel floor or the railing that he grabs with his hand. It's not a slam dunk victory but everything that makes a T 1000 less able to do his job is a good thing as far as his human targets are concerned.

The scenes with the T-1000 mimicking other metallic objects are from the directors cut. When it and the real Sarah face off at the end, there is a shot of John noticing one foot of the T-1000 mimicking the metal floor. I think the glitches are mostly cut from the theatrical version, except for the "shutter" effect in one scene.

I was such a big fan of this movie as a kid. Back then, it took a long time for movies to be released from the cinema to home video (VHS). I remember when the movie came out on VHS, I watched it several times in a row.😅 It's still one of my favorite movies of all time. Time travel movies are always a bit shaky when it comes to logic, you have to be a bit forgiving when it comes to that.😉 Changing the future by changing the past is always a dangerous game. Even if you try to do good, the unforeseeable consequences can be even worse and of course you always run the risk of wiping out your own existence. Our world isn't the best but maybe we shouldn't mess around in the past anyway...if we ever invent time travel. Yes, the T-1000 is also a very cool concept where you have to leave logic aside a bit. I've always wondered how the T-1000 was able to travel through time in the first place. In the first Terminator Movie we learn that no metal objects can be sent through the time machine. The T-800 is organic on the outside, so that makes sense, but that is not the case with the T-1000. The T-1000 is not quite as invulnerable as it seems. There is an extended version of Terminator 2 in which you can see how it slowly loses control of its abilities after being frozen. Here is a clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6bdeYWJeNJqjKMsi=kgH_cCh8NkQ1mJEi That was a great reaction, Angels, as always!💜

Sadly after it came out the advertising and commercials basically all completely revealed the twist. Sure, 101 doesn't kill and 1000 does when they first appear, but there's still room to doubt. Maybe 101 just wanted to move fast to find its target, maybe the one who killed the cop is just a really dedicated, do whatever it takes, no mercy kind of agent who is doing this to save humanity. But not when the commercial for the film flat out shows you 101 protecting John and Sarah.

Fun facts: All twins were real. Also, Sarah really picked that lock. And an amputee was the frozen T1000. All stunts were practical. From the truck driving off the bridge. Yes, it did survive. It just needed suspension work from the landing. To the helicopter pilot flying under that bridge. Amazing work.

Great reaction Angels! Some notes about the movie: The man taking pictures while looked stunned in the mall is the same character (and actor) who was the police officer that Arnold took the police car from in his pursuit of Kyle and Sarah in the first movie. That's why he looks stunned: he knows who this guy is and he knows the damage and killing he was responsible for the last time he saw him. He's also the source of the current day photos the officers show Sarah in Pescadero. It's not mentioned or referred to in any editions, but it is an Easter Egg that a friend of mine showed me. Robert Patrick trained so hard for this role as the T-1000. Training to fire a gun without the reflexive blink. Learning to run full speed only breathing through his nose, and he was fast enough a sprinter that he actually caught the dirt bike in the mall parking garage. He was so amazingly intimidating in this movie, as much as or even more so than Arnold, and that's saying something! When the orderly licks Sarah in the hospital, that was apparently one of the so-called catatonia tests done by unethical or sadistic orderlies according to an old friend of mine who had worked in a few psych hospitals, mainly in California, back in the late 70s and early 80s. It wasn't unusual for patients to try to get an advantage by pretending to be catatonic, hoping that the staff would think that they were out of it and not pay much attention so they could try to escape, create havoc, or whatever. Licking someone's face was a mild way of testing, according to my friend. The more standard way of testing among the more brutal orderlies was what was called a cup check, basically hitting the person in the crotch as hard as they could with a broomstick or something like that (the tonfa, shown in the movie, or a billyclub, wasn't standard when he was working in the field, so the evil jerks had to use other items like broomsticks or knees). If they didn't react then they were catatonic. And, sometimes, the catatonic patients needed to be taken to the hospital due to the damage inflicted by whatever the orderly did causing ruptures or internal damage. Apparently one patient had to have his testicles surgically removed as it was several days before it was realized how badly he had been hurt. And, of course, no one ever knew how it happened. “He musta fallen, or done it to himself to try to get out of here.” My friend never missed that job. He told me that some people did things worse than that, but those stories don't need repeating. There are two sets of twins in this movie. One set are the brothers who played the security guard at Pescadero and the T-1000 imitating him. The other set are Linda Hamilton and her twin sister Lesley who played the other Sarah in the sequences like the nightmare where there are two of her are in the same scene. Lesley, a nurse in real life, passed away a few years ago. There was a scene of the T-101 learning to smile that was cut from the theater edition cos it doesn't add anything of value to the story, but it does lead to a point that amused me once I saw it. After the failure copying the young man's smile unsuccessfully in the cut scene, the Terminator begins copying John's mannerisms and his one sided half smirk smile. This is best seen in the exchange after he hefts the minigun in Sarah's arms bunker. I remember learning that Cameron got a letter from a group of scientists congratulating him for the most realistic depiction of a nuclear detonation in a city in Sarah's nightmare. This horrified him since he was just trying to create the most over the top terrifying image he could, only to discover that it was accurate. Luckily, Sarah stepped back from Terminator mode before killing Dyson, which is good. Killing Dyson wouldn't have changed much of anything anyway. Cyberdyne still would have had the parts, all his notes, and everything they needed to complete the project. Judgment Day would have come, just on a different day other than Michael Jackson's (and my little sister's) birthday. The excellent Joe Morton, who played Dyson, had an accident that punctured one of his lungs when he was younger, so he knew firsthand how Dyson should be breathing/gasping at the end. And, when you get right down to it, the biggest damn hero in this movie was Miles Dyson. When faced with the reality of what his creation will be used for he changes from dispassionate scientist and loyal company man to willing participant who willingly sacrifices his life for the future. He's even more heroic in that he gives the SWAT team who have mortally wounded him the chance to escape and save their lives. I do give the SWAT team a break since they were unaware of what was at stake and, having already been fired on by a fricking minigun, were under orders to shoot first and neutralize the threat instead of disarm and capture. In my opinion the extended edition had two advantages over the standard edition. Though it wasn't obvious in its performance, the continuous damage the T-1000 was taking from every shot that hit it and every impact was affecting it. It is most obvious at the scene in the smelting plant after being shattered when, as shown in the theater release, its feet tended to take on the aspect of the flooring as it walked and, in the extended edition, when it grabbed a railing its hand mimicked the paint job on the railing. Also, in the extended edition, at the final scene when Sarah is calling out for John, he looks down and sees that the fake Sarah's feet look like the ironwork that the T-1000 is standing on and he knows for sure which to trust. The extended edition variant ending is also superior (to me) for one more reason: it ends with older Sarah sitting on a playground bench and watching her adult son playing with her granddaughter, meaning that this Terminator movie is absolutely the end of the franchise, and all the movies that steal the name of the series after this are just lame cash grabs and can and should be avoided like the plague, in my opinion.

For those who don't understand why Sarah wasn't listening to John when she was freaking out about the terminator. The last time she saw the terminator was when it was trying to kill her, she and Reese were barely able to defeat it and she possibly knew they can mimic voices or she just didn't hear John because of the adrenaline. She has severe PTSD, intimate knowledge of devastating future events and the responsibility of raising John which she's been unable to do from the hospital.

The T-1000 was a living organism. Skynet created liquid metal creatures. Their programming was at the genetic level. That's why they could go through the time portal... they were alive. At the end of the film when it was thrashing around in the molten metal and screaming, that was its true form.

1. Linda Hamilton should have been at least an Acadamy Award for best actress. 🤩 2. My guess is that stove is hot🧐 3. We have limited AI now, so does China.😱😱 4. Arnold did many, but not all of his own stunts in this movie, including riding the motorcycle. At one point he was injured, and they had to stop production for a couple of weeks so he could recover. 5. Arnold is not left-handed, but the way he works that shotgun is impressive😲 6. The twin security guards also play in "Good Morning Vietnam". 7. GOOF: Enrique's dogs don't respond to "Uncle Bob" as a Terminator. 8. "I need a vacation" was ad lib. 9. This is the action movie GOAT.🤩

An interesting bit of information: The shotgun that Arnold carries during most of this movie, is a sawed-off version of the Winchester model 1907, 12ga, 6-shot, lever-action shotgun. I imagine that it was also a replica, not an original. That is because this original shotgun was designed to use black powder loads. It was designed by John Browning and patented in 1886. I have the original shotgun as an heirloom in my family. It belonged to my grandfather, then my father. Also, I killed my first whitetail deer with this shotgun, while I was home on leave from the US Marine Corps in November, 1979. FYI. Thanks, girls for the reaction.

29:41 I want to emphasize this scene. In the end of Part 1, Sarah was driving south, into Mexico. She was _struggling_ with Spanish. Here, she’s fluent. She has considered the _incredible_ utility of second-language fluency, especially in a time of war, she has applied herself, and she has learned. She has grown as a character. Unfortunate that they could not demonstrate the same character growth with John. I’ve looked at the script for this scene and he spoke Spanish, too.
