I'm chinese, which I agree my parents were frugal and they never told me they loved me. But they were always there for me and told me to be careful and taught me how to be a righteous and good person. All the nagging and overprotective are actions that spoke love. I wouldn't have it any other way. I show my parents love back by asking if they had eaten, buy them nice clothes and take them out on trips. Sometimes action speaks louder than words.

Are parents suppose to say those thing?
@arkaniaknight6268 Жыл бұрын
Different parents have different way of expressing their feelings. The important thing eventually is to feel supported by them. If not used genuinely "I'm proud of you" could be just an empty phrase which anyone could say.

My parents were educators and made it a point to let me know they were proud of me when I was growing up. They were proud of me basically no matter what and it actually does give you confidence. On the other hand, sometimes you feel like you should be doing more to MAKE them proud of you, like some BIG thing. The thing is, I basically am a decent person and that's what they wanted me to be and they are proud of me for that. I wish I did do some big amazing thing (I'm not dead yet so maybe I will) but they make me feel loved and always accepted and it is terrific. Anyway, this video was hilarious. I loved it!

Hmmm...My parents never told me they love me. I'm Romanian. Romanian parents have a different "style". They do not tell their children "I love you!". They tell their children "I trust you 100%. I'm sure any decision you take is the right one!". That puts the responsibility on their children's shoulders. Now, they cannot do anything wrong, they do not want to betray their parents' trust. It's a bit of reverse psychology.

I think this would stereotypically have been Asian vs AMERICAN people in therapy. As an Irish man, therapy is still something that's very uncommon here although it is becoming more common. I'm sure Dawn's Irish husband from a rural farming background would have told her the same.

That's why I can't figure out what's going on here, her wedding speech has millions of views - but her stereotypes are basically drawn from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Chinese from the generation before hers (too poor to buy a bike), and Dr Katz.
