btw, from a technical perspective, the reason rethinking voxels has such nice shadows is this: the shrimple texturepack uses a simple shadowmap technique. this requires one rendering pass and is fps-friendly. any surface that isn't "visible" to a light emitter is shaded in shadow. so the light emitter is from a single point. this is the reason all the shadows are HARD shadows with no soft edge. however, in real life and in game, light sources have a surface area, they're not a single point. so as you get further away, there is a gradually decrease surface area of the light emitter that can "see" the surface, so you can notice that shadow edges get SOFTER as you get further away from the subject that the shadow is being cast by. a simple way to approximate this effect is called "percentage-closer soft shadows" and is a technique that rethinking voxels implements. you can notice that shadows get softer the futher away it goes, and its a clever sampling trick that's used. however, this does require you to sample the shading from an area around the shadow so it has an FPS cost.

Got this in my recommended recently. I haven't played Minecraft since like 18.9, as that's when Minecraft REALLY began to slow down. No updates, let alone game changing updates, for such a long time, servers were beginning to lose players, and many people like me were getting too old and busy with life to be playing Minecraft. I remember some time after I quite Minecraft they released 1.9, The End update I believe, but by then it was too late. I've occasionally seen from random thumbnails of videos I don't watch that there's been a TON of updates since 1.8.9, but I sort of feel like I can't go back, simply because of the amount I missed, and how different Vanilla Minecraft is. Also, I feel like it'd be kinda depressing, going back and trying to get accustomed to essentially an entirely different game than the one I know, but that might just be me.

Rethinking Voxels is probably in my opinion the best Vanilla+ Minecraft shader, but it really shines without resource packs, in the main game it goes to a whole another level.

2:04 In math class i learnt that half of zero is still zero, so lava shouldn't affect my game at all! 😂

I finally managed to install every single mod and i also had to install some other mods you didnt include in the video for some of the mods to work, took me about a decent 2.5 hours but now when its done i can say it was worth it.

jeez, my pc cant even handle watching this video with all these visual mods and stuff

You should create a modpack with all the mods you use in your videos! That way, we could easily download and play with the same stuff you show in the video.

What about the proximity voice chat mod? Instead of using Discord for multiplayer sessions with your friends, you get a much more immersive way to communicate in game. It's obviously less convenient than using the text chat or being able to instantly communicate in another voice chat, but I guarantee that the multiplayer experience gets MUCH more immersive. It also changes how you cooperate in a server, thus changing the gameplay of Minecraft. Maybe you could end up building rails or pathways to travel faster because you need to communicate more efficiently.

I'd like to see a whole gameplay with this. It would be so interesting to look at, even though your pc would problably blow up.

I attempted to make minecraft more immersive with client side mods while also looking for mods that kept true to the vanilla style. Some examples of mods I used are Biomes Particle Weather, Wakes, Falling Leaves, Explosive Enhancement and my personal favorite being Visuality! Adds some cool details to a default world without any risks

Stunningly odd that nobody's mentioning the conspicuous horses in the beginning

I would personally replace Serious Player Animations with the Fresh Moves resource pack. While it lacks animations for some things, a couple other mods can fill in those gaps
