Sure physique makes a huge difference. But that’s not the only thing in football. Australia isn’t even the best in the AFC, not even top 3. If physique was everything japan wouldn’t be the best in asia (Iran is probably the best right now though). It’s simple: skills, tactics, and mentality. Australia is just way better than vietnam in everything. And it’s also Something the Vietnamese have lacked ever since September of 2021. It seems as though after continuing to lose, the Vietnamese have no belief in themselves anymore and are just in extremely bad form. Don’t forget back in Hanoi they actually put up a good fight against Australia. Of course the squad was also weakened in this match, the vietnamese defense was basically a B squad. Due to injuries and suspension and covid. It’s not really a surprised Australia was able to penetrate so easily, the defense was atrocious.

Vietnam can't blame anyone else this time. While they played bravely, Australia outplayed them and deserved to win. By more than 4 goals in fact. I think ASEAN teams, not just Vietnam, will have to go back to the drawing board and think about the steps to take for the next generation of footballers. Maybe someday an ASEAN country can finally make it to the World Cup.
