As a Black American woman, I say that it is time for us to, as much as possible, disconnect from what others say, think, feel about us. We should have been embracing our natural beauty all along, regardless of what others have to say about it. Asian youth can "afford" to experiment with styles, music , ways of dress, etc., because they can fall back on a culture and national identity that will support them regardless. Anyway, as human beings we are always affected or influenced by what other cultures offer. Whether or not Asians like or respect us more or less whether or not they straighten or "nappify" their hair is not our concern. Frankly, it's not even important. And there's more to anyone's culture than hair styles, music and food. Asians who choose to "experiment" don't really owe us anything, not even recognition. So let's keep it moving and focus on the more important work of resurrecting our Black/Indigenous cultures, and find ways to get on code with one another and treat each other with more respect.

Exodus 1:19 “And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.” Hair and beauty The lord even told Samson not to cut his locs Judges 6 6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee. 7 And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. 8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. 9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known. 10 And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound. 11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. 12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread. 13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. 14 And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web. 15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. 16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death; 17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. 18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. 19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. 20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities? 20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. 21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? Revelation 2:18 “And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;” even angels look like us face and all Ezekiel 1:7 5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. 6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. 7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. 8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings. 9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. 10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. 11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. 12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went. 13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. i wonder what do coal and brass and the tents of kedar look like oh boy i wish we can share pictures indeed

the fact that there is a law in place to prevent black people to be disrcriminated against due to theri hair. because people still get jobs denied because afican hair is seen as "unprofessional" and black people are still looked down on and belittled for their hair. It is seen as ugly, messy, dirty, "wild" all the same racist talking points still remain. Black people had to fight for the law to be put in place and it still is not every where. Even in africa we still have the legacy of colonialism affecting dress codes and laws on what is appropriate at work. The very fact that even if people may not be legally allowed in some places to reject or bully black people for their hair they can still passively deny them jobs or be passive aggressive. RAcism has also a passive but still aggressive side to it. The issue of people imitating and copying and even crediting themselvs with black peoples cultures and styles etc but fully still hating black people and bullying them for their culturs, style and how they lookd. The cross-cultural inspiration between Asians and black communities, whether in fashion, music, or hair, is akin to flattery. Personally, I admire Asian and Japanese fashion, embracing the freedom to wear diverse styles like Kimonos or Lambadis. It's worth noting that just as black women say that we can wear straight hair because it’s not connected to one’s culture, the same principle applies to naturally thick coiled hair, believe it or not there are indeed white individuals with naturally thick, coiled hair. If black folk were not persecuted for wearing natural hair (at least in the US) then I’d be fine with the hair (not the mannerisms). That being said, I hope those people don’t venture to the US and get themselves hurt. The other issue is, people outside of the American black community still don’t understand the culture. So they see mannerisms and such and don’t understand what they are saying and doing. There are a couple of videos here on KZbin that illustrate this. One is a young white man that kept calling a black man the N-word. He was trying to say it the way he heard black people say it. He had adopted black culture and mannerisms while not understanding them. HEB got his butt handed to him. He didn’t recognize the body language from the black man either. Any black American watching understood exactly what was about to happen,,,just off his body language. ‘Another one is a white woman with a bi-racial son, and another white woman called the baby the N-word. Bi-racial mom, had clearly grown up around black women, she exhibited black woman, physical mannerism (no black-cent) that hold any black woman watching that she was about to hurt the other woman..and she did. White folk not familiar with these things, thunk that if they see a black woman slipping off her earrings and shoes, it’s a joke, or it’s an attempt to scare. Please know it is not. If you learn nothing else know the line and when you’ve crossed it. Black people have our own way of communicating with each other, without words in some instances that evolved out of necessity. It saved our ancestors lives. It assures us that if something pops off, we’ve got each others backs as much as we can without losing our own life. This evolved over time and remains. It’s also how we know when another blacks person may not be on the up and up. As there are just some things we don’t do, places we don’t go, behavior we don’t exhibit…ever. So know that you cannot as a none person of color, walk into the hood and fake your way through. Be yourself. Don’t try to be us.

These young people in Asia have no connection whatsoever with what black people in the US went through in the past regarding discrimination because of natural hair. They know nothing about it. Hip hop culture is worldwide and has massive influence over young people around the world - to the extent that it's supplanting traditional and indigenous cultures. People want to look like who they see as powerful and sexy. In the United States, many young black women straighten their hair and wear wigs and weaves. Can you imagine how Asian people talk about them "appropriating" their look? How many decades has this been going on? Give us some credit geez if not i and my people understand Zechariah 11 4 Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter; 5 Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not. Deuterononmy 28 43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. 44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. if jesus can call it out we can too almost forgot about jesus Solomon 1 5 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. 6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. Jeremiah 8 17 For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD. 18 When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me. 19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her?

Everyone who believes that this is a form of appropriation is correct. It is also correct when people say there are inequities between how people of African descent are and have been treated when they wear their natural hair vs. when other groups do it. However, making the argument that people who are not of African descent should not wear Afro-textured hair is going to be challenging because Black men and women are buying up straight-textured bundles as quickly as they can be cut off of people’s heads. To answer your question, no it is not hypocritical because the reason our people are mad about this is because of the way we are oppressed based on our differences such as our hair as well explained by the people who spoke in the stitches you played. In addition, we do not oppressed them based on their hair nor tease them and make them feel inferior because of their hair, yet they do that to us and that is the real problem. If they were not doing that our people would not be as upset as they are

It's mindblowing how they don't like us, but are completely obsessed with us at the same time....SMH.

We are the exact same with other races, and for other reasons. It's the human condition. No big deal

You don't like it when other races of people generalize all Black people as criminals, thieves, uneducated, rachet and ghetto. Stop generalizing, because most of them don't hate Black Americans in Asia. They also ain't obsessed with us like that. They have pride in their own people, tradition and culture. They ain't tripping over us like you think they are. The Asians that do wear Black hairstyles are less than 0.01 percent among the billions of people in Asia.

@@inongekhabele no baby. We're talking about them by default because they're summoning us by using our energies all day every. Do you live in an igloo or something? Oh wait- nah... even they would know what to say about us

@@inongekhabele No, we are not THE EXACT same with other races. Blk people don’t going hay-ting on other races, nor in the same way that other races hay-te on us. If anything, blk people have the most hay-te for their own people.
