Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris vs Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3: Top carbon racing shoes of 2024 compared

Not tried the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 but have the Metaspeed Sky Paris and it is my favourite race shoe with the Hoka Rocket X2 a close 2nd!

I bought the Edge Paris. So light and clearly a great shoe. But, something hasn’t clicked for me in a race. It’s almost like it’s too light and narrow (I have a narrow foot) for me to get the most out of it? I got Alphafly 3 and just felt way more comfier even at the shorter distances with them in a race. I don’t know if that sounds weird but that’s where I’m at. I’m more of a 10k guy though. My Metaspeed is now my go to choice for track sessions. They are definitely quick on that surface and have become a go to.

I’ve watched dozens of videos about these shoes, but it’s impossible to buy them in Europe. For at least two months, there’s been no stock in a size 44.5 anywhere! I have no idea what Asics is doing. I already had to buy the Superblast from a third-party site because even their own store didn’t have it. Are they trying to drive up prices by limiting supply? I’m honestly really frustrated with the brand. If this goes on, people will just end up going for other brands. That’s why I’m here watching comparisons with the Puma Nitro Elite-I’m already looking for alternatives.

Do you have to be a certain speed to really benefit from a carbon plated shoe? If I aimed for a sub-4hr marathon next year in Manchester, am I better going for a superblast or would I benefit from the carbon plate in the metaspeed?

Yes, it's true. Carbon plate, demands speed. I have Superblast (1) and they are my favorite for successful runs without fear of getting injured.

Have to disagree with the other replies. I am old and slow (about 5 min/km), and for me Alphafly or Metaspeed Paris take close to a minute of my 5K time. Also they just feel great to run in, and I feel better after. My running friends are of the same opinion. My favourite for speed and comfort is still the Alphafly 1.

I have run about 50 km in both of these shoes. I terms of feeling of propulsion and speed, for me there is no comparison, the Metaspeed sky feels much faster, comparable to the Alphafly 1. I find that the plate in the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 seems considerably less stiff, and that the shape of the front of the midsole is more similar in the Alphafly and the Metaspeed sky. The Puma seems to have the "pivot point" a bit more backward. Very importantly, for people with wide feet like myself the fit of the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 is not great. In my normal size I can only wear them with the thinnest socks, and lengthwise there is room not only at the front but also the heel lock is not great resulting in some rubbing. They would be too tight in my normal size for longer distances.

oh man why did they went with narrow fit sucks, dn2 is very plush for me hearing the dn3 and dne3 is narrower is a big let down. looks like I'm gonna skip this one too. thanks for your input.

@@MarcAplin Yes, definitely more narrow. Coming back here after running more than 200K in the DNE3, I have to say that although they don't feel very fast or propulsive, I did get an unexpected new PB in them (6K), so feeling fast and being fast may not be the same thing. Still have to change to other shoes the next day though because my big toe feel pushed inward too much.

I have both of these shoes. I just ordered another pair of the Meta Speed Edge Paris. Size 9.5 men’s came in at 183 grams. These shoes absolutely fly. Compared to the nitro elite 3 that feel dead. Need to mention that the new pair of ASICS are the yellow ones!

There´s no comparison between puma and asics. Puma is not a reactive shoe in any version. Asics is a real running brand. I ve magic speed 2 and elite 2 . Always Asics.
