If she is sensitive of impressions I would think he should have gone with a more minimalistic style, like plain white boxes, maybe one green plant and a good lightsource, instead of cramming har desk full of things in order to create something creative. Labeling and such is a good thing to do, and creating spaces for different things are also a smart way to help organise and keep clean.

I think she’d be a lot more likely to keep this up if she actually was involved in the redesign process rather than it just being a surprise. It’s much easier to stay organized when you’re guided towards making the choices yourself based on how it functions for you than it is when someone hands you an organized space and says “don’t mess it up!”
