“That girl “ was never about an aesthetic lifestyle. It was about the “go get that life you always wanted” changes that you always wanted to make. Being “that girl” you always aspired to be. It was supposed to be motivational, but somehow it has just squared down to being an instagram trend.

It’s because from the other end of the screen people just see it as another trigger or way to compare themselves. Because those girls do post, on Instagram or TikTok, just these small snippets of their life where it makes others believe they’re perfect. And either way, it can still be hard to be that person you aspire to be

Yes, absolutely! If it wasn't so heavy about posting these manicured posts online of what you're doing, then this "that girl" theme could be much healthier and less toxic than soical media has influenced it to be. Do more of this for You and Not the internet.

I 100% agree with the girl that ended up dropping out. I have a "that girl" lifestyle I have developed over three years, even before it was a trend or before tiktok was popular. However, I do not document my lifestyle, and even whenever I do it brings back feelings of being inadequate and such. The lifestyle is amazing, the fact that it is now a "tiktok trend" is hella toxic.

I think this does a good job at revealing that nobody can be "that girl" all the time. But if we try to show up for ourselves as "that girl" every once in a while then that's still a great act of self-love and doesn't need to be performed for anyone else but you; it seems that the implementation of social media is what turns it potentially toxic and stressful.

I didn't really post a lot on social media but i lived the life. I was doing it because I was living with a my controlling and emotionally abusive grandmother. The reason why following a that girl routine is unhealthy is because of the your why. Its supposed to be a routine that you devised for the best you. Your cute does not have to be someone else's cute and your work out dont have to be the same either. Your routine and habite should come from a real and honest conversation with yourself. And share on social media not because you feel pressured but because its something you want to share. I used to like the phrase "that girl" because when someone says the word "that" there is no way of knowing who they are talking about until they describe the person. YOU CREATE YOUR OWN "THAT GIRL"

I guess I view the “that girl” trend differently than most. I from the very beginning viewed at as a way to take care of yourself and become “that girl” you’ve always wanted to become. Nothing to do with following one set of standards on how it’s supposed to be done. Not a struggle to be someone you’re not and not be perfect. Perfect is something no one will ever be. You adjust the trend to your goals that benefit you and make you your best self. Just had to get my opinion out since the first girl and somewhat of the second girl I feel went into it prejudging the whole thing. Maybe try again but with a different mindset? Just a thought. Anyways that’s all.
@helle9075
@helle9075 3 жыл бұрын
I think the issue is not about the trend itself, but how it is «a trend». A lot of people know it is about being the girl you have always wanted to become, but it also stems a lot from financial situations (not everyone can afford the same lifestyles, set enough time aside outside of work etc.), it also depends a lot on social media’s algorithms, because you often see the same kind of people with the same life situations. The idea of being who you truly want to be is good, but the trend does show a very specific life style that is only possible for some people, which is sad.

As much as I appreciate the efforts of these girls for trying to be “that girl” I feel like the meaning just went over their heads. That girl is simply showing self love and self care by breaking old and bad habits. Jessica showed a great example of that simply by dropping out because she was putting her self and her health first. “That girl” is being a better version of yourself and searching what other “that girls” eat and do throughout their day is unrealistic to you or them personally. Im not “that girl” but I’m striving to be a better version of myself mentally, physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually for my sake and for my children. Im starting off slowly and making lists of good and healthy habits I want to incorporate and teach my kids to be healthier. Being “that girl” is about TRYING because we’re all going to make mistakes and sometime revert to our old ways but the more you try the better you get at it. Start slowly and figure out how to be THE BETTER VERSION OF YOURSELF (because this is also for males) without it stressing you out.

I think that girl is all about self-discipline and some people just don’t have it. Sticking to a plan is hard and that’s what so rewarding about it. I think the girl that gave up just can’t get past the struggle with things and into the “results” portion of creating a new life for yourself. I think it divides people into hyper-successful and not. To have it all you need crazy self-discipline and motivation to get crazy results. Nothing in life that’s worthwhile comes easy.

I feel there are a lot of women out there that are a "That Girl", the only difference is that they don't post about it...I myself work a professional corporate job (anywhere from 10-12hr days) and have made it a part of my lifestyle to make it a point to exercise regularly, prep healthy meals for my week, shop for bomb a** clothes with my hard earned money and manage my home by maintaining it's cleanliness. It is work and takes discipline but if you are deciding to make things in your life that are very important to you, whatever that may be, as a priority and incorporate into your everyday routine, then you too are THAT GIRL. Live the life that makes you happy without the pressure of posting about it everyday.

This is completely representative of privilege- most women could never do this as they may have children running under their feet, no time for "aesthetic" food (really just a piece of toast on the run) and no extra cash to spend on fancy gyms

I absolutely loved the highlights of the things that stand in the way of the 15 minute snapshot (i.e. all of the behind the scenes "I didnt do my dishes before making this smoothie") that get glossed over for social media aesthetics
@katherinewinkler8847
@katherinewinkler8847 3 жыл бұрын
I think where it went wrong is the social media part ... There was so much attention to things being aestheticly pleasing.. Even though people have turned it into that sort of thing... its more about being the best version of you , being productive and being the type of girl you want to be ... Not comparing if your smoothie looks as pretty as someone else's.

I made a joke"that girl" video on my channel which is my realistic that girl. It includes, sloth-ing my way out of bed. Honestly, whatever makes anyone feel amazing and productive, you do you! My morning routine (which I also made a video about) does NOT consist of me waking up at 5 am. But my place is usually tidy and very designer-ish cuz I like that stuff and it makes me feel good - it's not for the gram, it's for IRL. If "that girl" makes you feel bad, stop following those people, stop looking outwards, look inwards and work on you without social media and outward validation because that will NEVER have a good outcome. But being "that girl" isn't inherently bad or toxic, it's how we latch onto those things and give it significance and COMPARE that's the problem.

This is much better than other videos, because you did it longer and I can see two versions. It's true that being that girl is a full time job. A job or school doesn't fit to that routines. So I have to win the lottery to be that girl.

I didn't know that an 'aesthetically pleasing' lifestyle followed by a woman was the 'that girl' trend. But the minute I read the title of this video, I immediately knew what it was about. About six months ago I started adopting some habits of that girl lifestyle just because I felt like my life was entirely work and college. I felt like I’d lost me. I was working overnights for about six months and I hadn’t seen any of my friends except for my husband and even then I barely saw him. First I started learning a new language. It made me feel better about myself to stretch my mind. I also started journaling in a journal called new mindset who dis? In addition I started reading 4 chapters of my Bible each day since I wasn’t finding time to enrich my spiritual life which is super important to me. I also amped up my skincare - I took the time to understand what my skin needs and when. There are so many habits that that girl has that I don’t have time for, but at least I feel more fulfilled with the changes I have made.

Honestly depends on what you see value in. Most don’t see value in selfcare and just keep pushing themselves. It’s good to do some of these things every once in a while for your mental health. Plus it holds you accountable for anything you need to do and be productive. However, it can be tiring to do this everyday for some because it will start to feel like a job. Making it become stressful for some as well. I think a “That Girl” should be doing what works for you and whatever helps you reach your goals.

This challenge can be toxic as it forces the feeling that it’s necessary to post and share every moment of your life on social media. It makes you compare your life to others. However living as “that girl” just for yourself (without feeding into the pressure of Social) is a great way to boost your self confidence and feel good about yourself

I definitely understand how this trend can be toxic. Though, for me it’s motivating. When I don’t want to do something I know I should because I’m lazy I say in my head “what would that girl do?” As in the version of me I want to be… and I do the thing.

I look at it this way.. If the "that girl" routine is actually helpful to that individual, then WHO CARES what they're doing? Just like medication, therapy and literally EVERYTHING in life, one way of life doesn't work for every single human. Do your own thing, let other's do their own thing, and all will be just fine! Really simple. Speaking as someone who definitely will never be a "that girl" routine person, rock it if it works for you!

honestly i think that being “that girl” is rather toxic and stressful . I mean yes, i would be a love productive person and stay organised, but social media plays a huge role, and people are only seeing the good side and not the chaos. I thoroughly agree with the girl who wanted to drop out of the challenge. She knows her limits and knows whats best for her.
