I've installed the truck Norris nsr in my 03 suburban with a 250k mile 5.3 . I did put a rebuilt and lightly ported heads I did on a few years ago. The heads were shaved 30 thousands and when cc'd raised the compression by one point. I have tuned it myself so far. This is also the first time using HP tuners myself. I've got the idle down pretty darn good. It definitely has more power. For a 6klb vehichle it rips.

It's technically a NSR cam but I used BTR .560' with factory converter and made 312whp on 93 octane .The torque reading of 409ftlbs was def wrong in my opinion The rpm range is 1500-6300 if I remember right. Will need a tune to clean up the idle as it's asking for about 4g more of air. You can see a small pull on my channel. 5.3 4x4 single cab. EIther way good luck with the build Jay

Hi there..I am in the middle of swapping a 5.7 LS1 ('98) ..into a 93 Gen 1 Single cab S10..(about 2800 lbs ) It is intended to be a 750 vac sec Holley carbureted, Edelbrock dual plane RPM equipted SNAPPY cruizer.. long tube 1 3/4 ceramic quoted headers . I live in the Cayman Islands; most of the time will be spent cruising at between 40 and 60 mph..The heads will be either mildly ported stock 241s , or 706s, with dual 2.5 exhaust/free flowing turbo type mufflers. Transmission will be either the matching 4L70E with stand alone control, or a T400. Thinking 2500 stall, if T400..or 2800-3000 with lockup converter with 4L60E. Rpm wont go over 6000..😉 Rear gear will be between 3.23 and 3.73, depending on trans. Compression should be right around 10.5 or so, with either the 706 or shaved 241 heads.. Tell me Doc..What is your cam suggestion.. ? (I DONT need to "hear" a big "chop"..but want lots of low end grunt between 1500 and 5000.) I really like the published specs/characteristics of the 3 cams mentioned, BTR TNorris, Callies, CamMotion Lil Chopper. What would be your pick? P.S I will use nitrous 150-200 shot when I want to fire things up a little..😅 P.P.S. Tire diameter 27-28 inches..

Sloppy stage 1 vs the truck norris what’s your feedback on these as comparison
@NorthernPerformanceCars2 жыл бұрын
Likely that cam would make 5 more peak horsepower being it has a few more degrees intake and exhaust. 114lsa would carry the powerband fired her.. But it would have a much worse powerband. I’d assumed 30 less torque at 2,000. 15-20 less torque from 3,000 to 4,500. That’s where the truck Norris shines. It’s the most snappy and powerful aftermarket can from 1,500-5,000 I’ve seen. Then runs with the best of them to wherever the intake plateaus.

im truck shopping and have settled on wanting a 05/06 5 speed 4.8 for general driving and light to moderate hauling for things like camping and offroading and I think this is the boomstick that's going to go into it when i get to the point of modifications. It sounds good and a bit lopey without being obnoxious, plus it has a pretty rad name on the tin. Since i will have no worries of a convertor (and have a local clutch expert if i need one of those) this cam seems like a great fit, perhaps bringing mpg's up under load? I really can't wait to dive into LS stuff and a cam seems like the absolute best way to do that after catching up on maintenance. how should i go about tuning? holley seems super easy to get started with and has a solid wealth of support behind it but has a price tag to match, how does it stack up to the more budget-friendly hptuners and the stock setup as far as learning curve? I have decent experience with turbo 4 bangers and megasquirt, but it took me all of 4 years to learn that language and establish a completely turnkey car. How different are the associated softwares? I would be street tuning by myself, as i have no access to a dyno and would likely rely on a base ignition map. Maybe virtual dyno if I decide to chase numbers but I'm not looking for bleeding edge power out of a truck right away, it's just utility for the forseeable future. 87 is generally unfeasible in the F/I world, how safe is it with just a cam? what about after an intake/exhaust? Can I end up running into detonation issues pushing that much more air?
@unluckycharms9017 Жыл бұрын
The 4.8 5 speed is a good combo, go for it. And this cam is a very good one for any of the ls truck motors. Watch some of Richard holders dyno tests with this cam in a bunch of ls’s. I had a 4.8 5 speed single cab short bed and I wish I hadn’t ever sold it. It was pretty much stock with a 6” lift. For tuning, there’s a ton of options, Diablo sport is one of my favorites but a bunch of people do good tuning for ls stuff. I would also recommend a trailblazer ss intake, you’ll get another 20+ ft lbs of torque out of the cam.

Shit I was looking at the stage 1 V2 truck cam for my 08 4.8L single cab now I may just consider this! I’m looking to add a converter and 3.90s or 4.10s. Unfortunately my little single cab is a one wheel peel 😂. Do you think this cam would bleed off too much for boost with the LSA @107?
@NorthernPerformanceCars2 жыл бұрын
Oh yea. This thing is awesome in that truck. It would be that much better with the gear and any converter. You called it. I wouldn’t choose to boost it with so many excellent cams designed for it. This is what it is as an aggressive mild n/a camshaft.

I'm sure it's bigger, otherwise how does that compare to the callies cam you used to recommend for trucks?

This is rather larger. Will carry power higher. Not lose a ton down low. Not as good as a towing cam specifically but probably worth 10hp and torque across the curve.

I’d throw a 243 cylinder head on there. It’d raise compression a decent bit. Around .9:1. The compression jump would make power from idle all the way to redline Would be great overall.

@@GulfCoastTuningandCalibration I prefer headers in stuff if you are trying to squeeze out that last little bit. Make them more resistant to detonating with a longer primary(pushes the expelled exhaust gases further from the head) But it is not a must have. The sounds is far better.

@@kylekerber6217 shouldn’t be too hard. A gen 4 intake and 90mm would certainly be a worthy upgrade over the gen 3 and 78 as well. But yes. The beauty of this cam is that it makes power from the beginning to the end. I’m going to do a video soon on why having a big cam really affects under the curve. You might gain 10-20 up top over a smaller cam. But you’ll lose 20-30 down low where it counts. Gotta think how often you’ll be above 3,600 rpm. Or how long you’ll spend at 6,400 rpm. Camshaft dictates the powerband and the converter places you where you need to be dependent on the cam choice.
