As always Dr. B; great layperson explanation of a music theory concept-Species Counterpoint-and it's practical use for today's sing-songwriter, composer, and (a) music theory quasi-novice and DJ! Now, (we) I have another tool to use with my 4-part voice leading as I continue my musical sojourn through all things music theory. And from what I have unearthed from watching your two videos on "Species Counterpoint" (and the rest of your music theory videos) 4-part (or as you like to say "smooth") voice leading/writing is a direct descendant from Species Counterpoint...Now I have a better understanding and appreciation of the origin of the rules of 4-part voice leading... and this gem-Species Counterpoint-on part-writing is helping to solidify my ongoing understanding and practice of 4-part voice leading. Again, thanks.
