Rammstein #1. The show and theatrics is everything. Pantera - most emotional, raw power, and absolutely fun shows I've ever seen. Type O Negative - on Halloween this is the best show I've ever seen in my life - but also some of the worst shows when Pete was too hammered to function. Machine Head - best recent live show I've seen. Intensity and fantastic crowd.

I've seen quite a few bands live including Korn, Van Halen, Rush, animals as leaders, Iced Earth. The best "show" I've seen from a band was Rush on their Time Machine Tour. The best "live act" I've experienced was surprisingly Intronaut. To this day they are still the only band who played so loud that my eyes were oscillating in the sockets. I unfortunately never was able to see The Who, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Meshuggah, Pink Floyd, or Devin Townsend but I hear that they are all quite impressive live bands.

Anthrax, that I've seen at least to make a proper assessment. Three times I've seen them, absolute madness. Complete crowd/band interaction, with the entire venue going crazy with energy. Second I'd say Suffocation. Now that I think of it I've seen them 7 times, and they always blew the roof off. So maybe it's a tie. (I'm referring to Suffocation with Frank Mullen)

The big ones I've seen is Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Sabbath, Guns N roses, In Flames, Meshugga and much more since I've been to many festivals. But for me The best Live band, which was a freak show ina good way was Rammstein, saw them in Metaltown in Gothenburg Sweden, then later in Stockholm. Their show, sound and act is superior to anything else in my opinion.

Tool was probably the most amazing show I’ve ever seen... but in a different way, Origin and Fleshgod Apocalypse blew me away when I saw them live... I saw All that Remains open for Dying Fetus when they had just released “This Darkened Heart” and that was the first time I had that cliche stoner moment when I could hear colors. The melodies between the 2 guitarists sounded so angelic through the speakers i’ll never forget that.

As far as theatrics and overall showmanship, I've gotta give it to Maiden. For overall vibe, both band and crowd, I've gotta go with Overkill. And for overall crispness of sound. I hate to say it, but I have to go with Nickelback. Please hear me out before you start bashing me with hate comments about Nickelback. My wife is a big fan, so I've taken her to see them a couple of times, and I was impressed by how tight and crisp their sound is. They sound just as good live as they do on an album (I'm speaking in terms of the sound, not the quality of their song writing). As a band I think they're terrible, but they do have a good live sound.

Based on stage set-up & theatrical quality of old-fashioned stagecraft, sound, musicianship, professionalism night after night, and crowd energy, nobody compares to Maiden, and it's now going on 40 years. They kicked ass last year perhaps more impressively than they did in the 80's. How many other bands, regardless of genre, fit into that category?

Rammstein / Slipknot. They put on the best shows you'll ever see
