Horses take up to 17 days to build up enough sebum for nourishment of skin and hair....don't wash in less the 17 days!!! I wash my horse 3 times a year max. I have to apply treatment to her mane and base of her tail as she has dandruff every week, but that's it.

My horses hooves are always dry and cracked! He is 15 years old and barefoot and his feet get trimmed every 4 weeks. I apply hoof oil every other day and he is on farriers mix hoof supplement I pick his hooves twice a day and he is always turned out with mediocre grass because it’s summer he is on great quality hay too but his feet are always cracking!

Charlotte Ella Try adding biotin to his diet. It's a good hair and hoof vitamin and he may be lacking in it. Also maybe back off on the hoof oil, it's probably drying them out.
