THIS is what reality TV should be. These are the only guys who show you the full process on a TV show. Bravo!

Having watched This Old House and Ask This Old House from the beginnings I cannot think of anything that is remotely similar. I have learned from these shows and The New Yankee Workshop sooo many things that inspired me to take up woodworking. And having volunteered with Habitat For Humanity my first time actually helping build a house was surreal. Finally I thought I'm doing what these guys do if even at the lowest level. There is no comparison.

I am so glad I found this channel again on KZbin. I guess my dad, who was a contractor, had me hooked on shows like this. I am glad they are not reruns and they match the 21st century for the tech side of things.

It was needed. This Old House was mostly shows of This Old Expensive homes with rich homeowners ok with $500K addition overruns. But Ask This Old House opened up repairs to the average homeowner and not specialized, expensive restorations that ATOH assisted with and involved the home owners.

Talk about a path down memory lane. I was 15 when Ask TOH came out, I remember being so excited for an hour of TOH. I grew up watching you guys, literally from a stroller (or as my parents say) Instead of cartoons, I would run down the stairs to watch Norm, Hometime,TOH and Bob Vila. I literally grew up watching you guys every chance I could, TOH was the highlight of my week and I couldn't WAIT for next weeks episode. Watching you guys is like "comfort food" for me. Although I'm not in the typical trades, I am in Low Voltage trade integrating large homes and estates to make them manageable. I Owe a lot to you guys, There's very little I ever hire out, as one could say im a "ProHo". There's not many celebrities I would ever "fan girl" over, But if I ever had the chance to meet any of you guys, I would totally "fan girl" Thank you for what you do, and have done. Literally the best group of individuals, and one of, if not the BEST show(s) on TV. Cheers!

If anyone is confused - the 2O year thing is referring to Ask This Old House, and not This Old House which first aired in 1979 on WGBH Boston Public Television.

When they said 20 years, I was like, that can't be right, and it's not. If you ask Alexa or Google they will say: 21 years, 7 months, and 10 days so @thisoldhouse you are 1 year and 7 months and 10 days late. lol

Ask this old house started in 2002 so this episode probably originally aired in 2022 on pbs. I've definitely seen it before so it's not new. Everything on This old house/ask this old house KZbin channel is delayed like a year or 2. So when they present an episode as new, it's not really new. Just new to the KZbin channel. Kinda annoying. I wish they would just say in the description when it originally aired. Edit: As per the ask this old house website this episode originally aired Jan 20th, 2022

TOH and ATOH are two of the reasons I have been a PBS supporter for decades. And it is why, when people ask me why I prefer to do my own home repairs/upgrades when I can afford to hire people, I say "Because TOH and ATOH make it so much fun and I like knowing how my house works. But it also tells me when I need professional help."

The biggest reason there aren't that many young people in the trades is that for 20 years it was shoved down our throats that if you want to be successful you have to go to college. I always wanted to be an architect or maybe an electrician.

Awesome content, thank you This Old House. I'm currently an tenant, and am running into a few issues as a renter. My management company is not responding to the requests about plumbing issues, and have lied about people being in the apartment while I am away for the day all day. What would you recommend as a solution to them not being honest and hiring sub par contractors? Thank you, In advance. -Croyle

The trades are thriving with young kids. I see it every day. 95% are Hispanic and the other 5% are the rest of us. I'm not saying they are are legit and on the books. But job sites are well stocked with workers.
