Thanks, Andy! Your lessons are very clear and useful. I was afraid of Chinese language for years (because of writing and tones). And now I have just started and found that the language is beautiful. The lesson with tone pairs is very helpful too. I've found the way to differentiate single tones. But I'm completely lost when the tones sound in sequences. The same as with music: it is relatively simple to distinct single notes (pitches), but when you hear a melody… «what?? what was it?!»

Summary: In two-tone pairs, stress the second syllable, unless it is the neutral tone, then stress the first syllable.

Sorry that I didn't do that because those words are all basic. You can check them with Pleco and write the meanings down and that's a good way for you to memorize them

thanks for important lesson. I heard that fourth tone +fourth tone, stress on second syllable, fourth tone pronounce as second tone. Is it wrong?

Sometimes like 慢慢 Man4man4 -> Man4man2 (slowly) but I didn't make them in the examples so as not to confuse you guys

Why native speakers stress on second syllable? Does dictionaries pronounce same way? Is This pronunciation only applicable for Taiwan ? PRC all dialects? Why Hanyu pinyin still shows tone on first vowel? Can tone be transferred to second character then?
