@@s.k.y9269 No matter where you are, it still takes hard work and discipline to develop competence in communicating in multiple languages. Thailand and Korea are not particularly diverse (linguistically, culturally or demographically). Actually, most European countries have more diversity among their populations, with much higher immigration and significant numbers of population groups speaking various languages. Lisa's use of multiple languages is not something that she picked up automatically as a result of living in a country that "practices diversity". It's a result of her (1) being a native speaker of Thai, (2) studying English as a foreign language in school, (3) moving to Korea and going through a very intensive and hard process of learning Korean in a short period of time, and (4) continuing to study English, Korean and other languages (e.g. Japanese and Chinese) in connection with her activities as an entertainer who is a member of a group that has a global fan base. She switches between languages for a couple of reasons. First, in some cases, there are certain thoughts that she has already expressed many times in one of the languages, so to avoid slowing down the conversation she'll switch to using that language for that expression and then switch back to the main language that she started with for the interview. Second, she knows that she's speaking to an audience comprising people who speak many different languages, and since she can speak English, Korean and Thai, she likes to at least speak a little to people who speak those languages (and she knows that interpreters and translators will make the appropriate captions). If I was just speaking as an expert in linguistics, I wouldn't say that she's a certifiable genius. (But who knows? If she had focused most of her energies and efforts on language studies, instead of singing, dancing, rapping and entertaining, maybe she would have achieved actual genius-level results.) But I would say that she obviously is very smart and has a very good aptitude for learning foreign languages. When people/fans say that she's a language "genius", I think they just want to compliment her with typical fan hyperbole. It's like saying "queen!". Fans don't literally mean that she's the royal and sovereign ruler of a nation. It's always funny to me that people take these kinds of fan expressions so literally and try to argue about her level of fluency in Japanese or Chinese as "proof" that she's not a "genius".
