About Nick Slavik
After graduating from High School, Nick joined the Army as a mechanic and a paratrooper. Shortly after the events of September 11th, 2001, Nick volunteered for two tours of duty overseas: the first in Afghanistan & the second in Iraq, during which he met his wife Tootse. He attended college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business management and with a double minor in tax accounting and managerial accounting. The Nick Slavik Painting & Restoration Co. was founded in 2007. He is the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5145. He is also a member of the American Legion, the New Prague Area Historical Society, the New Prague Sportsman’s Club & the Economic Development Authority Board of New Prague. Nick and Amy have four children. They reside in a 1917 Craftsman home which is fully restored. Nick has been a craftsman for more than 25 years. His company has been awarded more than 5 National awards for craftsmanship. He has created a rigorous Apprenticeship program where he finds, trains, inspires and mentors young people in his craft. Nick speaks nationally and internationally on the subjects of entrepreneurship, trades reform, apprenticeship, craftsmanship, and coating science. A weekly live show on Facebook ( / askapainter ) where Nick uses his 25+ years as a Craftperson and Entrepreneur to answer any and all questions. The shows air live at noon central each Friday. They are an open forum for pros, DIY'ers and lovers of the craft to openly discuss systems, processes, business, paint, and tools.
