"You mean like from Africa? How did he get that?" "The same way he got us." I love how you use humour to get an important message across. I imagine it would be tough to do, but you've done it very effectively.

🤔🤔🤔🤔 what's the important message? That slavery existed in America? Or is the important message that people in Africa sold their own people into slavery all across the world? Is there people that doesn't know that? Are you aware that slavery existed in many countries during that time? Are you aware that slavery still exists in some countries? if there are people that don't know that slavery existed in America maybe it's because we're tearing down statues and trying to erase history because we're offended by it. It's cute it's comedy I definitely enjoy the video but I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that it's some kind of important message. It's not like the woman in this video actually experienced slavery actually know what it was like.

While concentration camps sometimes used prisoners for slave labor, the goal of them was to kill the prisoners either quickly or at least withing a year or two. People who had slave actually intended to keep them alive for years and perhaps even make money off of their children. Both are terrible things, but they are not the same. In case anyone is curious, Emma's "husband" is Juan de Pareja, (1606-1670) From Spain, and slave, yes slave to Diego Velázquez, a famous Spanish painter. Juan was also a famous painter, though most of his works were lost to time. He was freed in 1650. The painting is by his former owner, around the time of his freedom.

@Ordinary Gamer this is satire she’s basically showing how ppl often take slavery as a light matter and she also lets ppl learn what it was like being a slave and learn about some history for example she brought on Emma who was a real slave I bet tons of ppl haven’t even heard about her. This isn’t racist this is turning something that was dark into a comedy so more ppl can learn from it and understand why slavery was/is important to learn. Everyone had viewed Washington as this high a mighty man who freed us from the British granted he did but he was a slave owner and did awful things to his slaves as well and this lady had made it satirical so we can understand that he shouldn’t be put on this high pedestal just because he make America independent ppl think his slaves were treated right cuz he was Washington they weren’t he still did awful things to our ppl. She’s sarcastic and that’s what makes it funny because everything she says is true! She’s not making fun of slaves she’s being in the the shoes of a slave and basically saying what all slaves most likely wish they could’ve said.

@@jenniferbreedlove1652 I’m pretty sure the bright atmosphere and decorative setting is constantly juxtaposed by the implied horrible conditions of slaves. She mentions hard labor, long hours, beatings, and capital punishment several times in the series. Perhaps, and I’m not sure, it is possible the series is meant to reflect the United States, which has a tendency of preaching freedom and other “western ideals” while ignoring institutions like slavery and colonialism that had a large effect on the success of the country. All in all, my comment was just a optimistic and rhetorical remark about the ending of the series.

Love the time warp feel to this. Many of us have lost touch with our rural traditions in the busy modern world. My Scotch-Irish Ancestor arrived in Philadelphia in 1770. Never left Pennsylvania, dirt farmers in Butler County. Hilly country, small farms, no plantations, ten kids, no slaves. 116th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Irish Brigade, Army of the Potomac. Fredericksburg, Antietam, Malvern Hill, Petersburg. Love good reenactors. We do a Hudson Bay Company Trading Post, Fort Nisqually, here in the NW Territory now known as Tacoma.

Seem to remember that Emma was pursued by some of Washington's relatives after Martha's death. Washington's will stipulated that all his slaves were to be freed on Martha's death, Martha had them all freed shortly after Washington died because she feared that one of them would kill her to free all the others! Emma was not freed by this action as she was a run away, the relatives placed adds in newspapers offering a reward for her but she remained free for the rest of her life.

Please do an episode on escaped slave Ona / Oney Judge whom GW chased after for some 16 years. She was eventually 'found' in the North. Reported on back to GW. Through an 'emmisary' he had NERVE to try and negotiate w/ her to return (to slavery) of her own accord. Luckily, she saw through the trap that it was, stayed where she was at and (paraphrased) told 'said emissary' "H to the NO". It's a good thing she did. Otherwise, later citizens such as ourselves would have never known her story and she would have been lost to history.

@@akatobi2002 There is a book out, called "Never Caught: The Washington's relentless pursuit of their runaway slave, Ona Judge" by Erica Armstrong Dunbar. It came out in 2017 -- I think. The author even gave a talk on the grounds of the Washington estate. Anyway, if you look up the book you will find info on her story. Enjoy!! Funny aside during their lifetime the Washington's naturally enjoyed a fair amount of privileged status and comfort. They were seen as 'benevolent 'stalwarts' of their community. Yet at the time of Washington's death (and fearing reprisal's from the will-provisioned freed slaves) -- Mrs. W -- both out a sense of grief and fear for her own personal safety -- retired to the 3rd floor of their home; rarely coming down from there fearing a slave uprising. Now, ask yourself this if they were so good and such model citizen's why was she expecting her property to up and revolt? Just some food for thought.
