I have JPX923 version of this with Recoil 95 shaft. I got 29 degree first and immediately got 26 degree the following week because it was working so well for me. With the 26 degree, first time in my life, I hit green from 182 or 183 and held the green. Before this club, I had a hybrid that I can hit 180ish carry but it rolls another 20 yards then longest iron I can hit reliably was 7 iron with 155 carry. 😂 I highly recommend this club.

GREAT CLUBS. I play the CLK and looking to upgrade to the ST-MAX. I did play Titleist Hybrids but they had a tendancy to shoot left without telling me first. The CLK is one of the best clubs I have ever hit, the distance control and shaping is superb and I would highly recomend them. I will soon be 72, still playing off 6 and I had to drop the 4 iron from my last set and facing hard facts, I will not be buying a 5 iron in my new 245's, as I will keep the clubs into my 70's, so I will put 3 hybrids (ST-MAX) in the bag instead. I tried a 7 Wood at 23 degrees also to check which would be a better replacement for my 5i. Turns out the 7 Wood goes much further and is a great gap filler between this and my 3 Wood. The only thing that is concerning for me with these is the fact that my miss with longer irons, with hybrids and with high lofted fairway woods is always towards the toe. And these do seem to perform worst when hit towards the toe. No golfshop in my area carries them. In fact, they seem to be completely unheard of in the whole German speaking part of Central Europe, because they are offered nowhere. So I am wondering, if I should risk ordering the 22° from the UK or Ireland with the iron shaft I play in my irons or with the graphite shaft I play in my 7-wood (both are available) and just see if I get on with it and sell it, if I don't. The only good thing is that they seem to be on sale already and cost not much more than half of what an ST-Max hybrid costs...😉

Great review...thank you. I have a question on the distances. Based on your distances at 80 mph the 28* Fli Hi hybrid is carrying 154 yards and the 925 HL 7 iron at 31* is also carrying 154 yards. Mizuno is packaging the 925 HL combo sets with a 25 & 28* Fli Hi then the irons start with a 31* 7 iron. Makes no sense to have those 2 clubs in the combo set going the same....am I missing something here? Why Based on the combo sets it lends me to believe those 2 clubs should carry different distances.
@AskGolfNut3 ай бұрын
Have you got a link to the Mizuno combo sets as I can't find them and are unaware of Mizuno approving any combo sets of these as they promote a custom fit first approach. I reality, especially with hybrids, any combo should be specifically tailored around the individual golfers needs, this is why they don't stamp numbers on the clubs and only loft. You'd find that depending on how a golfer delivers the club differently they would need different lofted Fli Hi heads to that of another golfer even if they transitioned at the same iron 👍
@jasonverbarg97902 ай бұрын

I play a very hilly course. I normally have quite a low flight and have bled distance this year with the very wet fairways. In response, I refreshed by fairway woods and hybrid. Last year I was playing 10-year old JPX 5w and 3 hybrid and a 3i driving iron from Wilson. I upgraded to ST-Max 230 5W, 7W and 4H. They all have adjustable hosels and I ratcheted them all up to the high setting [approx. +1.5°]. If it's really windy I can take the extra loft out, if it's really wet I can add some. I don't play a 5i or 4i anymore, so if I want to hit those distances I just grip down the shaft. I know which club to take for each of the par3s and can guess how high I have to grip depending of the wind etc. I think it is fair to say that a less than ideal strike is punished less with this setup.

@@AskGolfNut Thx. I have spent quite a lot of time ploughing the internet looking for solutions because I am not getting any younger, but I still have certain modest ambitions. I went over to a cheap-as-chips armlock putter last year. My putting improved on faster surfaces, but not on slower. I then bought a few conversion grips from the USA and converted a couple of existing putters to armlock because I didn't like the feel off the face of the cheaper putter. Not a universal success, but I do have better days, and broke 40 for 9 holes for the first time last week. Armlocks are not stocked where I live and + € 400 is too much to just blow in the wind. My game is a work in progress.

A lot like the ping, but the adjustability of the ping is nice. I’ve found also that only 3 degrees of lift difference doesn’t produce a different enough distance to carry all of them. Prefer at least 4 or 5 degrees of difference between them

@@AskGolfNut thanks. Do you think a 15 handicapper with 7 iron swing speed of 80mph and driver swing speed of 100mph could still benefit from these types of clubs or am I better off with normal game improvement irons like the hot metal pro etc?
@AskGolfNutАй бұрын
@@martindimbleby1439 absolutely you could benefit from these and the swing speed isn't so high that you'll be potentially ballooning them and also they are only available from the mid to long irons anyway so regardless of speed the long irons are where people need the Forgiveness help that these types of clubs provide 👍 Also just as a note, handicap should never be used as a measure for determining equipment choice, I know it's pedalled by manufacturers and retail outlets but that's more so to push sales. In reality it's what the golfer requires from the equipment whether thats launch, Forgiveness or ball speed etc which different clubs give more or less than others 👍👍

At what club head speed? also these aren't in numbers as such they are labelled in lofts so its a point of matching the required loft against the relative iron. The FLi-His don't have club numbers only degrees, the 28d flihi , and the 28d HM (7 iron) went within half a club of each other in jays testing and that's within normal gapping/adjustment for blending clubs.
@AskGolfNut3 ай бұрын
They are designed to be that way although you have to remember that 7 irons for example come in many different lifts so rather than looking at numbers etc, the best thing to do when looking to blend any different model with another is to hit both and see how one reacts compared to the other 👍

Yes agreed, they are nice clubs. They are pretty hot and high trajectory. I had a 19 and a 23 if i remember correctly. And then I sold them. The reason why is that the ‘flex sole’ (or whatever they call it) gets stuck on the ground every time during the take away. Every time a little pull on the club, right at the moment where you want to be confident. Soooo annoying.
@AskGolfNut3 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree! On the older CLK and Fli Hi they grabbed the ground during takeaway. On the new Fli Hi the clubs has the same Wave Technology but importantly the ridges aren't anywhere near as intrusive and doesn't grab the ground like they did prior 👍

@AskGolfNut3 ай бұрын
You may well have to go less loft on the Fli Hi's due to the tendency for the hybrids to produce more kick angle loft at impact. The amount depends on quite a few things so it's best to go and speak to a competent fitter than can see how you deliver the club and suggest the right option using some measured data 👍

Depending on the golfer and how bend profile specific they are, the lofts required will differ. Generally though the pattern for hybrid and wood heads in general is to deliver slightly more loft than that of their flat faced iron counterparts so sometimes you will have to go a couple of degrees stronger in loft of the hybrid heads to gap properly. Now of course most standard hybrids have longer shaft lengths so that the gapping is achieved by the normal loft gaps but faster head speed, but with these Direct Long Iron replacements they need to be fit to the golfer. I'd suggest if possible get to NG fitted for them or at least test them to see what your own loft delivery results are to make the decision 👍

If you have the control of the CLKs and they do exactly what you want then none whatsoever. These are designed for the golfer that struggles with their mid to long irons or wants to gain some extra height and control. Hi what’s the difference between the hybrid
@AskGolfNut3 ай бұрын
The hybrid being longer in shaft length will promote more club head speed and potential height, descent angle and distance than the long iron replacement. Thr Hybrid is there to bridge the gap between long iron and Fairways, whereas the Fli Hi is looking to replace the Irons directly to make them easier to hit and get more consistent results from using them 👍🏻

You’ve triggered my interest. I’ve game 923hm irons , Ping 425 5 wood & 7 wood and in the winter was contemplating getting a 9 wood .. But I might have to try one of these

@@AskGolfNut thanks for the video. I have been thinking about these before. I have Jpx 923 HL irons to 5 but a 4 hybrid I’m having issues launching high enough. How would these compare and which shaft and loft would I order to replace the 4 hybrid / 4iron if I had one? Thanks

One would naturally suggest the same custom fitted shafts as your irons however you may well gain a touch if you select a shaft which has a slightly softer tip section.... Although speak with your fitter that you got your HL irons from and talk it through.... It would be well worth the test switching the shafts slightly to see what your flight results are 👍

I guess the question is: would other hybrids be similar forgiveness?

I'll be running the new Heat Map Forgiveness evolution part of every club review upcoming and in the future to be able to give Golfers this information. All can be seen and compared against on my Discord Server (link in the description) by my KZbin Members. I feel its right to give access to this information that has taken so long to create to my KZbin Members as a perk of being one 👍

I have to disagree with the forgiveness thing, you don't get anything like the gear effect with an iron than you do with a hybrid. My misshits are always more wild with a hybrid than with an iron.

Forgiveness doesn't have anything to do with measuring gear effect. We measure how consistent the carry distances are from miss hits. Gear effect will change side spin and lateral misses, and these will change wildly depending on Path , Face to Path and even Shaft torque.

@@andy_bickley golf misses are distance and direction. If "we" aren't factoring in direction misses into forgiveness then "we" are wasting everyone's time with testing clubs.
