Hi Mate, It is regrettable that you have utilized the term “Bad” numerous times. As it carries a negative connotation, I kindly request that you refrain from using such words in any interview question, as it is a “poor” choice of words when interviewing anyone. SpaceX is not ISRO, ISRO is a government space nodal agency, and SpaceX is a shareholding private entity where public relations plays a major role in shaping Public opinion, Business interests and Federal considerations. I understand that ISRO needs a good PR drive, but for them, it's the last choice of preference in their list of important things. It is what it is.

@@Humble_Balaclava Public Relations matter a lot even if it is a Government Agency. NASA could not have landed humans on the moon without the Kennedy Speech. Agreed somewhat with Somnath sir that purpose is not PR. But the thing is in today's time PR is also important and he himself stated that ISRO is not good at PR work. But I believe it needs to be, in order to inspire the children, students and young scientists. People should know what amazing scientific things ISRO is achieving. This inspires the children. I personally had met few school children who were vry much interested in rockets and space science, although they were aware abt recent ISRO achievements but they knew more SpaceX rockets and systems than ISRO bcoz SpaceX is popular, they are good in PR. ISRO needs to enhance it's PR team and capabilities, bcoz it is not only for ISRO but it matters to India as a nation. Being fascinated by NASA and SpaceX, children want to go there and not to ISRO or any Indian Space Tech company. It is causing the brain drain.

Space probes have limited bandwidth for data transmission. Priority is given to scientific data and status reports over high-quality images. These same kids will end up growing up and pressurising governments to fund better quality space missions. If we just accept anything, nothing will improve. SpaceX and Blue Origin are way younger than ISRO but still have more people flocking to view their launches, that too across the globe. Many offices of Govt across the nation is built 'functional' just to serve the purpose. The color scheme, aesthetics, cleanliness, hygiene never makes it even as secondary priority. That's why you see from buses, trains, airports, roads, sidewalks, city planning, drainage system, building all messed up. It's disheartening to note Mr. Somnaath is condescending in his answer. Today the world works default on 720p. Next generation Indians are no less than their peers, they want their nation to stand tall amongst other countries. If the attitude of indian govt heads is nonchalant it will discourage youngsters to go elsewhere. I still remember when India in 80s and 90s looked like North Korea. With limited choices and amenities. Those were dark times as growing up as teens. Yes things were simple but access to hospital, clean toilets, etc were scarcity. Troubled times. So please dont keep us in the same condition. It's sad Govt under modi is also seems to carry the same attitude of old administration of congress

Bro I have been saying this from time again you have to improve the way you ask questions, I mean if you don't have time to frame questions in a better way , ask the community for help , just think about it , if you are going to very straight and blunt about camera quality being poor , it just turns out to be rude even if you don't have that intention , I'm not saying you to address him sir or whatever but you could just frame the questions respectfully which will help him answer comfortably we know we have low budget , less access when it comes to tech , less awareness on how PR works they have significantly improved it in recent times , ig they will improve on this too but we should also give them the time and space. Frame your question: Why were the images seen from Chandrayan 3 or Aditya L1 mission are not of great quality , as the kind of pictures you click actually inspires younger generations to explore these fields , imbibes enthusiasm in them like on these lines You can just pluck him to answer the question without turning out to be rude or whatever at the same time

The trade-off between resolution and durability is crucial in space missions. High-resolution sensors may provide better quality images, but if they degrade rapidly or fail due to environmental factors, their utility is limited. Legacy cameras, on the other hand, may offer lower resolution but are optimized for longevity and stability in harsh conditions. This balance between performance and reliability is why space agencies like ISRO often prefer older, more robust technologies ; Moreover, even with advancements in robotic repairs or modular designs, the process of swapping out sensors in a space environment-especially in deep space or on distant missions-remains risky, time-consuming, and resource-intensive. This is why robust, radiation-hardened, and highly reliable sensors are prioritized over higher-tech but more delicate alternatives. The focus is often on ensuring long-term functionality with minimal maintenance, rather than using the latest technology which might require frequent replacement or repairs.

The Americans had better production quality back in the 60s when video recording was in its infancy. They storyboarded every step during the launch and landing. They showed the World how to present. Watch Apollo 11 documentary for proof. The Chinese, Japanese and the others have exhibited decent quality too. Its only India who is an outlier. I still remember the landing animation of Chandrayan 3. Worst. A school kid must have done it. That's pretty much sums India's production quality. Defenders will say that its not entertainment. Its science. Well, you can produce footages, animation and flight graphics with high quality and still do science.

What we have to understand is that these camera modules need to withstand extreme conditions, working without a break sometimes for a few years at a time. Also the space and mass constraints for protective gear for these sensors are a limiter, because ISRO didn’t become the most successful govt space agency in the world when it comes to cost per kg per launch by producing fancy clips, but by limiting the resources to the bare minimum and making it work reliably.
