OH! I have to change my answer. My great-grandmother had a woman named Corrie who helped her around the house, and she helped her take care of me for awhile. She was very influential to me, helping me see that one's color didn't make anyone more or less of a person.

Shirley Chisholm. She was the first Black woman to be elected to Congress. She ran for president against Richard Nixon. I met her when I was in college, and got to sit with her and chat for about an hour. She was phenomenal. She signed a poster for me that said, Aim high! MLK was actually not as peaceful as Malcolm X. I can talk about that on a live or something, if you remind me. In short, when there might be violence happening, Malcolm X would cancel an event. MLK would show up with video cameras. He knew that the rest of the country had to see what was really going on, for anything to change. So he invited it, in ways that X did not. X was advocating peace with Jews, just before he was killed.
