Looks like a good trick for sure to get your sulfides. I have some big chunks of ore that have lots of pyrite in them. What do you think about roasting them before hand so they crush easier?

I read something about this years ago in an old book, that article said something about soaking your sulphides in vinegar, causing the iron to rust, then when you roast, more gold particles are released. Oh, it seems it mentioned something about salt too, this would form a chloride and free up more gold, I surely don't know the chemistry.

Hi again Jeff? What about mica along with Galena? I use a bucket mini miller table that i got from Rhetta quite some time ago. She said Darren used to use it. But what it does is seperate the microscopic stuff out. It doesnt actually have riffles in it but just a rubber mat in it with tiny bumps all over the mat u can hardly see or feel. Also i get all that grey rock (schist) out of my mine but when i roast it it turns that dark red like u showed.

I have a golfball sized blob of sulfides, suposedly from a filled in anciant wash some where in CA desert, some old guy gave it to me like 35 years ago. He would use a 30gal oil drum, put his ground up stuff in it. Put at an angle so it wouldn't fall out the drum spins over a big propane torch. Was like 2 weed dragons for the burnners. Once the can was hot he would run it like 1 hour and then would dump it all into water. Dry it in the sun, put it back into the spinning drum and dump an ounce of mercury in with it and spin overnight. Then he slowly dump it over a charged copper plate and the mercury would stick. Then he would do the vaporizer thing get his mercury back. He was pretty gunho guy, lol, he would hold up his flask full of gunk " this here is gold" and his buddy would always say, "we would get more money from recycling catylitic converters for platnium" He was all about that getting gold from pyrites in that soft decomposing granites. :}

I have been watching you for a long time. I just came back from a mountain camping church trip. I came back with about 45 lbs of quartz seam with sulpher, pirite, and a lot of grey black powder in it. Some white powder too. I have tried to pan with no results. I spilled a touch of nitric on it and it madly fizzed. I put a small sample in hcl. It reacted and turned yellow. The quartz and lighter colered material became very chalky soft over night in the hcl. I dont know what to do. I am a very newby. I will go to this area for morechurch trips at the end of every september. There are 2 gold mines in the area.

Being from Pennsylvania, I find you content fascinating. I have a question bat the end. I recall reading a news article years ago about some gold being a n the Allegheny River due to glacial movements several thousand years ago. This river has been dredged for sand for decades, though less in recent years. It's the sand, I think that contained some gold. But the river issue aside, of that little sample you picked out, what is it worth vs. the Man hours and other expenses. I guess, if you had to break it down into $$$ per hour are you looking at like $5, $10, $15 PER hour ?
