How to Move Email Messages to Another Account

FIVE Stars for this video! I needed to quickly move all my emails and folders of 20+ years from my previous service provider without forwarding them s-l-o-w-l-y. I felt moss growing under my feet while doing that and thought "there HAS to be a better way!" I've been searching for just the right one that cut to the chase and this is it! You hit everything on point and was succinct so I could follow along and get 3 emails into one place, that is now Thunderbird rather than Outlook! Not that Outlook is bad, it's not, but I use my computer for work and my personal business and other items so I certainly don't want them all comingled. But now, if I so choose, I can drag/drop from one to the other! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Didn't you have any problem with the huge amount? I seem not to see the oldest ones. It shows I have 9000+ emails. Now I am trying to weed out the newer junk mails. I could not see for some reason the oldest ones from 2013. Any suggestions?

This was the only way I could migrate my e-mails from one Outlook account to another. The Outlook app is a pain in the neck and doesn't even let you move or delete folders. Your video was really helpful.

Been a big fan of Thunderbird for years and always recommend it to folks. Using Thunderbird to move your messages about is seriously fast and easy. I've moved thousands of emails this way several times. Yes, the issue of contacts not being as easy to move is a pain but In my opinion not a 'end of the world' style one. As you said, the most vital info (name & email address) does tend to go across quite well and the rest can always be tidied up manually in slow time if you have a full csv from your old provider.

Hello Leo I really want to thank you; with great appreciation to your clear explanations, I moved all my emails from on gmail account into another. All mails were moved but after completion I found only some of the email in my new account (344 out of about 3500). Any help?

Thanks for the video, Leo! I have a tougher question: what about moving emails from a private personal email address to another email host but with the same personal email address?

That does get a little tricker. I'd be tempted to 1) download all from old, using IMAP. Switch the service being used (I assume you're just moving your email processing from one host to another -- that can take a day or so to "settle", so I'd probably add a delay here before doing the next step.) Then reconfigure the email program to the new provider, and ideally everything will upload. I say "ideally" because I've never done this exact one before. For safety I might, after downloading everything, move it all to local folders not associated with any account. Then when the new server is set up, move all the email back and it should upload. I shouldn't need to say it but I will anyway: back up. Often.

There's no way to prevent someone from sending you can email. Best you can do is set up a filter that auto-deletes it when it arrives.

How do I accomplish this if I have email associated with my domain and I am moving my domain to another web hosting provider?

If email is handled by your web host, then 48 hours (or so) after the switch, reconfigure your email program to the new configuration for that web host. Nothing really needs to be "moved", you just need to start picking them up from the new location. (48 hours because it can take 48 hours for email to stop going to the old host and start arriving at the new.)

What happens when you consistently get an error message when trying to use the IMAP configurations that says configuration could not be verified? All credentials are accurate and I keep getting this error regardless of the machine I'm working on. I have not disabled the configuration to my knowledge and it's a private email account I'm trying to switch. Any advice on that problem?

How can I arrange the emails from oldest to newest in Thunderbird? I have thousands and just need the older ones. It's also pretty hard to scroll if you have this much emails. The small view of each account in Thunderbird is restrictive to select if you have so much emails. I'm thinking about deleting the newer ones but that kinda defeats the purpose of trying to simplify the process.
