Excellent advise! I made the mistake of starting a business with my best friend who was part chameleon. Before we open our pizza shop we were in sync with our beliefs and what we wanted to accomplish. After we opened, he totally went back on what he’d been saying. When I asked him about his double mindedness, he got his nose out of joint and told me this was half his enterprise too! Problem; he kept asking his college friends over to ‘visit’ which meant after working 8 hours at a factory job I had to go to this pizza shop and do most of the work as he was entertaining! Blessedly, it only lasted about 18 months and a bankruptcy; mine. He had no money; he was going to do the bulk of the hard work to offset. Ah well, live and learn. During this time, however, I discovered my brother, who worked during the day for me, would have made an excellent partner! The business was too far gone by then and it was best to let it die. That’s why I wanted to tell you how wonderful your advise is. If I’d have known 30 years ago what I know now I wouldn’t have spent 38 years working a factory job I hated. My brother and I could have made something great just like you and your brothers! Very many congratulations!

Finally, explaining the family business: Hi5 Studios. Since the families love each other, Hi5 Studios succeeds. You are spot on for the pro and cons of a family business. My uncle bought a supermarket in hope of his son would take it over. I knew that wasn't going to happen. His children constantly complained about working there. After 35 years, my uncle finally realized that my cousin didn't want to/wasn't about to take over the business, so he sold it. I remember a vlog/video made during a celebration at Hi5 Studios. I remember your father thanking you for giving J-Fred a job. I wondered if you felt obligated to do so. But, watching all the banter, silliness, and the fun you all have together, I don't feel you were obligated. I think you knew J-Fred and his brand of humor would be entertaining at Hi5 Studios.

All of you in Hi5 set a great example on communication when it comes to your channels because me (as a content creator myself) wants to learn from not just examples but great examples on how to take content creator and creativity to the next step. Kevin is right when he said that communication is key to a running a business (also the fact that most of you in Hi5 Studios are putting yourselves out there in the world and it could feel overwhelming sometimes because you give it your all. I (as a audience of Hi5) have seen your channels becoming stronger and more open with your audience which is something I enjoy seeing. Feedback is so important when it comes to creating consistent content and I love watching the content here because in the end, everyone matters, The Talent, the crew and the audience/community, and you taking your community's feedback is showing and I think that is a great way to take a business to the next step: with communication.. Have a great day Matthais! :)

Matt, couple questions. 1. If you have let someone go, how did you do it. Also was the first person hard to do it. 2. Do you think youtube is dying slowly. 3. Do you know if you are thinking about changing any channels? ALSO THANK YOU MATT, when you started this I was looking for fulltime work, which is really difficult in the area I am In. Also that I am eighteen can sometimes be a problem. But one of the first more serious videos inspired me, to start caring about myself and what I want to do again. I had a interview for a full-time traineeship where I will get a cert1 in constriction. Which isn't a big certificate but I get alot more hands on experience. (I also find ot hard to get labouring jobs because I am not male, told multiple times we are looking for a bloke as they are stronger, the past 20ish months I have been working on strength, where I can carry 30killos easily.) You restored some confidence that I lost from being receted about 14 jobs because I was female. I gave up was still looking but I did not have a passion to find work anymore. Now i feel that passion comming back slowly. I also now feel more inspired to edit more videos for my other channel and do more for myself.

glad you found motivation again, but let me tell you: 14 job rejections is nothing. Between my current and last job I wrote around 100 applications, only to land a job I do not really wanted after looking for 1 year. The important part is that you still keep trying. (though I have to find my motivation to switch job again myself)

I enjoy seeing Matthias back in his vlog videos! I know he has a busy life but I enjoy the behind the scenes of his life as CEO! Hes so honest and straightforward. This can be taken in other ways like the importance and involvement of a leadership role. I've enjoyed watching how much the community and growth from just the three guys as team edge to much much more! Thank you for being a huge inspiration and reminder to never give up!

So I would love to start a business of my own. Its something I wish to work for and you have been inspiring me every step of the way. One problem I have is lack of motivation, and I would love to hear your opinions and answers for what you have done over the years to keep working learning and educating yourself, staying away from distractions and sticking to a schedule. I love your company so incredibly much, It makes me happy every day seeing all that you have done with your friends and family. I want to get over that lack of motivation and drive and I have been waiting ever so long for this channel, you have no idea what it really means to me. I also want you to know if ever/whenever you are down you have us and your family you can rely on.

We were learning the difference between goals and objectives. A goal is the "inspirational thing". An objective is something that you can measure. For example a goal is "growing my studio with my family" and objective would be "higher family members" (this is relatively easy and sinplified). I learned this in my educational psychology class. I think it is a good way to distinguish it. I say this because you said that an objective should be motivational. While im saying an objective is not motivational but a measurable outcome.

I know you already did a video on productivity, but could you do one focusing productivity and its relationship with procrastination? As an extremely busy student I really struggle with this and would like some tips from someone who I look up to and is successful and knows what they're doing. Maybe some tips on how to schedule your day in the most efficient and productive way in order to combat procrastination and how you personally deal with procrastination? Or if you don't struggle with procrastination maybe how your coworkers deal with it. I know your channel mainly focuses on the business standpoints of issues, but I think it'd be beneficial not only for people who are running a business, but people who are in school. It would be so helpful and appreciated. :) For reference, I'm a junior in high school taking 2 AP classes, 2 college prep classes, concert, marching, and pep band, taking violin and guitar lessons, working 2-4 days a week, in student council and 2 volunteer organizations, and in a serious relationship.

This is actually really good. accepting feedback and providing viewers insights or knowledge that you want to share gives aspiring individuals like me to understand the concepts of the overall work space. Not sure if that's the thing you are trying to say, but that's my take. Been watching you since your team edge backyard days and i really like how you progress and how you develop to who you are today. thank you soo much for being inspirations to your viewers. when Matt says "being an owner is different then being an employee" he is right. I work at a grocery store called Publix, and at Publix after a certain amount of time they give you stock in the company. it is a private company so only the employees can invest in it. in other words the Publix employees are the owners of Publix because they are the only ones who have stock in the company. Publix as a company takes pride in having their employees owning the company and it makes a difference in the effort you see in the employees. we take pride in what we do when we are there because what we do affects how OUR business is doing. since we take pride in our company we have become one big family where we trust each other and enjoy being around each other.

This is my new favorite channel ever. You're like the Elon Musk of KZbin. I'd love to see a video with you, Joey, and Bryan talking about Team Edge first starting out and it's evolution over the years. I also have a question for you: I've been lucky enough to grow up surrounded by people who are overwhelmingly loving and supportive of me and my aspirations, however I can still sometimes feel like they think I'm too young to really get anywhere with my business right now (I'm currently 18). Do you think that you can ever start too young? Do you think that you shouldn't start a business until you reach a certain age or until you've had certain experiences? I realize that this kind of an open ended question and it's extremely dependent on the context, but in your experience have you worked with people who are simply too young to do well in your business? Thank you so much for giving us these incredibly entertaining, educational, thought provoking, genuine, real videos that are so motivational and inspiring. I look forward to seeing more as well as seeing the growth throughout the studio as a whole. p.s. I'd love to hear your story of how you became saved. That's something I've loved about Joey since I first found you guys. His openness and willingness to share. But I also don't want to push you. Take your time to strengthen your relationship. You're doing incredible work, Matt.

I can definitely see how they can be detrimental or advantageous to someone who wants to go into business. I'm a little confused how I should approach KZbin. Should I consider it more or less of a business? Or more as a job? What do you think? Personally, I think of it as a Job/Hobby (Full-time hobby) because I don't really understand the difference between the two. Thanks for these awesome, inspirational, informative, transparent videos that I honestly didn't expect from someone like you. (An Exec.) ~ Gator-Roo

Absolutely loving these videos Matt! I was wondering, when hiring people, what are some red flags that you shouldn't hire them?

check in with not just the higher ups i would do evaluation every other month or monthly basis just to see what the creators need and personal feedback about what they can work on

the through the steering wheel shot is not a move. I appreciate how you switched up the angles and it's great to try new things early on. I just thought it was a bit of an awkward angle with how it was just your face.

I would just like to know, if you don’t mind me asking. Have you invested in stock, if not, are you selling stock? I’m in sixth grade and study business for a forced elective. It’s been quite a passion ever since. Stocks have been the most important topic in business class. I would just like to know. Thank you! Have an amazing day if you’re reading this!

So I don't know the relevance of this question, but I'm going to go ahead and ask and see if it goes through! So I'm a high schooler, and I founded a club at my school. As with any new group, we have growing pains. Many of the officers under my command just flaked, and didn't follow through on thier projects, sometimes even missing meetings. I think it boils down to a lack of communication; and organization. It is the end of the school-year, so I will have the chance to have a new officer board. That being said, what are some methods/apps/procedures/other stuff that you use to combat lack of lack of communication and organization?
