In a purely practical sense, MTM is 80% as good as bespoke and you can certainly make use of this channel's advice along with its menswear KZbin peers. That's what I do. So never say never!

Something which you didn't mention is the importance of a sufficiently structured placket such that it doesn't collapse under the collar. This is one of my pet peeves!

Very good point ABC. There are so many details that go into construction of a shirt. We tried to capture as many as possible in the tutorial. Thank you for your contribution PROFF

Thank you very much for your eloquent presentation. I agree wholeheartedly with your statements about using the solid colours for dress shirts - especially plain whites and sky blues for the base dress shirts for a gentleman's wardrobe; and slight variations of sky blues. I have many of those, and I keep buying whites and blues for my suits and Navy blazers. One key take-away for me from this video is the dressing tip you shared that the collar should be properly tucked under the coat lapel. It has really made a lot of sense to me after listening to your tutorial. I have often found myself in a quandry over this particular issue: I put my ensemble together, and then after a final inspection in front of the full-length mirror, I do not like the final look simply because of a certain lack of congruency when the shirt collar does not blend perfectly or seamlessly with the coat lapel. It is a typical problem with many ready-to-wear shirts, and I just have to run out anyway because there is no time to change the shirt. I am surprised that you did not mention the ivory/light cream pastels or beige coloured shirts in the next level colours. From my experience, the light beige/cream coloured dress shirts go very well with tan-coloured or brown plaid sports jackets. Finally, what do you think about wearing a solid light sunset red dress shirt matched with a pair of brown trousers 👖 complete with a tan-coloured plaid sport's jacket? Cheers to continuing sartorial grace and elegance!

This is why I keep coming back to your channel, very well researched and excellent delivery. I learned something today about shirts. I do have some casual suits however, that I normally don't wear with a tie especially during summer or when i travel to Ghana. For my well tailored suits , I always wear something around my neck. I don't know if it's your personal choice or a rule. That said you did a great job.
@AskOkeyInc Жыл бұрын
Thank you Kwaku. Indeed in all seasons but the hottest of summer, I almost invariably have something worn around the neck. Either a necktie, ascot, or a simple scarf. None are really “functional” but they finish off the neck area of a shirt which is otherwise left bare when nothing is worn. Thank you once again Kwaku. Stay tuned for more content on AskOkey. PROFF

White, baby blues, pink & pastel yellow. These, in solids and with subtle stripes - those are the colors for a men’s shirt. Also: pressing your shirts (and other clothes) is as important as tailoring! Pressing (ironing) maintains the shape of the garment and is required! My tailor (my mother!) taught me that, and encouraged me to have a deep relationship with my iron!

this is about shirts but cannot stop looking at your jacket and how well the pattern on the breast and the sleeves continues. For years II have had arguments with tailors that it must be a match or at least at the most prominent places... Very nice jacket. Sleeves lines continue. central line continues, all just simple right My compliments

Okey, I love your very well crafted informative videos! I have shared your videos with several friends and family but I think you should have many many more viewers and subs. I want more people to be introduced to your wealth of knowledge and fantastic taste. I truly believe that if your video series was introduced to just one influential celebrity, e.g., one influential musician, one influential actor, etc., that your "brand" would blow up & go viral. In other words, there are millions of people out there that don't even realize they need your content because they have yet to be exposed to it. I wish you the very best and I hope others can get some exposure & access to this treasure trove. Cheers!

Just as all your videos, this was so informative. Thank you for the lesson. I do have a question about tie pins and tie clips as well as other accessories. When are they appropriate?
@AskOkeyInc Жыл бұрын
Thank you Bo 😁 Tie pins and clips are a matter of preference. They do perform a function which is to hold your tie in place. Ideally they should stay hidden. Otherwise they are appropriate in any situation. Welcome aboard sir! PROFF

Delighted by the video! 👏 Quick question: Could you guide me on measuring the width of the lapel? Specifically, from which point on the lapel should I begin measuring? Thanks in advance for your help!
@Trialtenyoutube Жыл бұрын
Creating a video demonstrating how to measure the lapel and collar width of a shirt and tie is a great idea! This visual guide would certainly help many of us.
@AskOkeyInc Жыл бұрын
Thank you Tenassi. I have done at least a couple of video tutorials on how to measure your lapel. Please check our KZbin archives beginning in 2021. However it is measured by running a tape from the widest point of the lapel in a horizontal line to the inside edge of the lapel (where it rolls at your chest). That horizontal distance is your lapel width. Welcome to AskOkey! PROFF

@@Trialtenyoutube Also in this video above, there a section where I describe how to measure your shirt point collar. It’s the tip of the collar to the edge where the collar buttons. Your tie width is straightforward. It’s the widest point on your tie (usually at the bottom) PROFF

The knots Proff is wearing is called the Four in Hand knot. It incorporates a slight asymmetry into a perfectly put together outfit. As the Italians call it, its sprezzatura. Welcome to AskOkey, Andy.

the Windsor knot is a great tie knot. Symmetrical and full-sized, it is undoubtedly one of the classic traditional knots. The tricky bit, however, in my respectful opinion, is that the beauty of certain collar styles are perhaps better accentuated with the type of knot Proff used in this video - the Four-In-Hand knot. Whilst the asymmetrical look of this knot may not be appealing to some, it is indeed the preferred choice of many worldwide.
