Raghav, First of all you are doing a great job..Appreciating you from the bottom of my heart..I have a quick question regarding my career..I have 13+ experience in testing..In Automation I have 7+ years of experience.. Worked in UFT, Selenium, API automation, ETL testing..But I dint get chance to work on framework development in any company..Am not interested in management kind of role..Whatever technical expertise I possess has become a common skill in automation..I don't know what to do next..I learnt python, typescript, cypress, AWS as bit and pieces..Not completed anything fully..Much confused which one to concentrate..To sustain in QA world for the next 10years, what do to next? As I have 13+ experience I am not getting much openings too..I am bit strong in Java but not strong in Data structure..Kindly suggest me how to shape my career further..

With your extensive experience in testing and automation, you have a solid foundation to build upon. Here's a structured approach to help you shape your career further: 1. Specialize in a Niche: With the commonality of automation skills, specializing in a niche area can make you stand out. Consider areas like performance testing, security testing, or test automation architecture. 2. Deepen Your Technical Skills: - Frameworks: Since you haven't worked on framework development, consider creating your own projects or contributing to open-source projects to gain this experience. - Data Structures: Strengthening your understanding of data structures and algorithms will not only improve your coding skills but also open up opportunities in development roles. 3. Expand Your Cloud Knowledge: AWS is ubiquitous in the tech industry. Completing certifications and gaining hands-on experience with AWS services can significantly boost your profile. 4. Learn DevOps Practices: Understanding CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes is highly valuable and complements your automation skills. 5. Master a Programming Language: You mentioned being strong in Java. Consider becoming an expert in it, as depth in one language can be more beneficial than breadth across many. 6. Contribute to the Community: Sharing your knowledge through blogs, webinars, or speaking at conferences can establish you as a thought leader in your field. 7. Networking: Engage with the testing community online and offline. Platforms like LinkedIn, GitHub, and community forums can lead to job opportunities. 8. Continuous Learning: The tech field is always evolving. Keep learning new tools and technologies to stay relevant. 9. Consider Contracting: If permanent roles are scarce, contracting can be a good way to gain diverse experience and may lead to permanent opportunities. 10. Mentorship: Either find a mentor to guide you or become one. Teaching others can also deepen your own understanding. Remember, it's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed with the plethora of technologies available. Focus on one or two areas at a time, set achievable learning goals, and gradually build your expertise. Your vast experience is a strength; now it's about leveraging it in new areas to stay competitive and fulfilled in your career

Thanks for the info. Will learning devop tools give any advantage to a software tester?
@RaghavPal
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Hi Nero Yes, learning DevOps tools can give several advantages to a software tester. DevOps is a set of practices that emphasizes collaboration and communication between software developers and other IT professionals, including software testers. DevOps tools help to automate various tasks in the software development lifecycle, such as building, testing, and deployment, which can help to improve the speed and quality of software delivery. As a software tester, learning DevOps tools can help you in several ways: Test automation: DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Travis CI, and CircleCI can help automate the testing process, including running automated tests and generating reports. Faster feedback: DevOps tools help to provide faster feedback on code changes, which can help testers identify issues early in the development process. Collaboration: DevOps emphasizes collaboration between different teams, including developers, testers, and operations teams. Learning DevOps tools can help testers better collaborate with other teams and understand the development process. Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): DevOps tools help to automate the process of building, testing, and deploying software, which can help to reduce the time it takes to deliver new features and fixes. Overall, learning DevOps tools can help testers become more efficient and effective in their work, while also contributing to the overall success of the software development process.

@askRaghav, i am working in Automation (selenium), can I jump into Cloud testing directly, or should I pass through API testing and mobile testing to reach there?
@RaghavPal
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Hi Suresh, Jumping into cloud testing directly from Selenium automation is possible, but it may depend on your prior experience and skills. Having a solid understanding of API and mobile testing can help you better understand the cloud testing landscape and the challenges you may face. Here's what I recommend: Build your API testing skills: API testing is an important aspect of cloud testing, as cloud applications often rely heavily on APIs to exchange data between different components. If you have limited experience with API testing, you may want to start by learning about RESTful APIs, HTTP methods, and how to test APIs using tools like Postman Gain mobile testing experience: Mobile testing is also important in the cloud testing world, as many cloud applications are accessed through mobile devices. If you have limited experience with mobile testing, you may want to start by learning about mobile application types (native, hybrid, web), mobile testing tools (Appium, Selendroid), and mobile device testing platforms (e.g. cloud-based device farms like AWS Device Farm, Sauce Labs, etc.) Learn about cloud testing: After you have gained experience in API and mobile testing, you can start learning about cloud testing. You'll need to understand the basics of cloud computing, the different cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and the various cloud deployment models (public, private, hybrid). You'll also need to learn about cloud testing tools and platforms, such as AWS Device Farm, Sauce Labs, and testing frameworks like Selenium and TestNG Overall, while you can jump directly into cloud testing from Selenium automation, having a solid foundation in API and mobile testing can help you better understand the challenges you'll face and make your transition smoother

@RaghavPal 24 күн бұрын
Poornima Considering your 7 years of manual testing experience and current role as a QA Lead, switching to a technical side can be a great career move. Since you don't have any programming language experience, it's essential to choose a field that has a relatively lower barrier to entry and is in high demand API Automation I will suggest to check API automation first. it's like testing the behind-the-scenes stuff that makes apps work. Again, you already know testing, so this is a good choice. You can learn tools like Postman, Rest Assured, or Karate. It's also in high demand DevOps DevOps is like a team that makes sure software is developed and delivered fast and good. It's a big field, and you'll need to learn some programming stuff, but it's doable. You can start with the basics and tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes GUI Automation GUI automation is like automating the stuff you do manually on a computer. You already know testing, so this is a natural fit. You can learn tools like Selenium, Appium, or Cypress. It's in high demand, and you can start learning from scratch Cloud Testing Cloud testing is like testing apps that are on the cloud (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud). It's a bit more to learn, but it's an option. Honestly, I think GUI automation or API automation are your best bets. They're close to what you already know, and they're in high demand. -

Hi Shivanshu, As the software industry is continuously evolving, it's important to stay current with the latest technologies and trends in testing. With 7 years of experience in manual testing, you have a solid foundation of knowledge and experience in the field Based on your experience and interests, you have a few options to consider: Automation testing: Learning automation testing frameworks such as Selenium or Appium can be a great way to enhance your skills and increase your value as a tester. Selenium is a popular open-source tool for automating web browsers, while Appium is used for automating mobile applications. This can be a good option if you're interested in learning more about test automation and want to increase your chances of getting a job in this field. Cloud testing: Cloud testing is becoming increasingly important as more companies are moving their applications and services to the cloud. Learning about cloud testing can open up opportunities to test web and mobile applications in the cloud and develop your skills in this area. Specializing in a specific domain: If you have experience in a specific domain like healthcare or finance and want to continue working in that area, then you can focus on specialized testing methodologies and tools. Test Management: If you're interested in moving into a management role and want to learn more about test management, you can consider learning more about test management methodologies and tools, such as Agile, Scrum, and Jira. Ultimately, it's important to consider your interests, skills, and career goals when deciding which path to take. I recommend learning Selenium and Appium, as they are widely used automation tools in the industry, but also to explore and learn about cloud testing and test management methodologies. Keep in mind that learning new skills takes time and effort, but it can be a great investment in your career. It's also important to keep an open mind and be willing to adapt to new technologies and trends as they emerge

Both cloud engineering and DevOps are in high demand as they are critical components in modern software development and deployment. Cloud engineering involves designing, building, and managing cloud-based infrastructure, platforms, and services. With the increasing adoption of cloud computing, cloud engineers are in high demand to help organizations migrate to the cloud, optimize their cloud infrastructure, and ensure their cloud-based systems are secure, scalable, and reliable. DevOps, on the other hand, is an approach to software development that emphasizes collaboration, automation, and continuous delivery. DevOps engineers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between development and operations teams, helping to ensure that software is built, tested, and deployed quickly and reliably. Both cloud engineering and DevOps skills are highly valued in the tech industry and can lead to rewarding careers. Ultimately, which one is better or in more demand may depend on the specific job market and the needs of individual organizations.

Please provide your advise on these points. Thanks

In the evolving landscape of UI automation, Playwright has gained popularity due to its cross-browser support and ease of use. While AI tools like testRigor enhance test creation, they won’t entirely replace existing UI automation tools. Additionally, AI continues to play a crucial role in API testing, making it more efficient and effective .

Manual testing is sufficient for cloud testing career. Do I need to have automation testing and programming languages too.
@RaghavPal
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Hi Jyothi, Manual testing is a valuable skill in the cloud testing field, but it may not be sufficient for long-term career growth. As cloud technology continues to evolve, there is an increasing demand for automation testing skills and knowledge of programming languages. Automation testing can help speed up the testing process, improve efficiency, and increase accuracy. In addition, it can provide better test coverage, which is especially important in the complex and distributed environments typical of cloud-based systems. Programming languages are also essential for automation testing in the cloud. Many popular automation testing tools are built using programming languages, and having knowledge of these languages can help you to customize and extend the tools to meet your specific testing needs. Python, Java, and Ruby are some of the most commonly used programming languages for automation testing. In summary, while manual testing skills are important for cloud testing, automation testing and programming language knowledge are increasingly valuable and can help you to advance your career in this field

Hi Raghav I want to do aws claud testing with Karate automation based on gradle Could you please help me on this
@RaghavPal
@RaghavPal 9 ай бұрын
Yogita For AWS cloud testing based on Gradle., Here's a basic outline: 1. Dependencies: - Karate DSL: Include the Karate dependencies in your `build.gradle` file. You can find the latest version and instructions here: [github.com/karatelabs/karate] - AWS SDK: Choose the appropriate AWS SDK for Java based on your specific testing needs. Popular options include AWS SDK for Java 2.x and AWS SDK for Java V2. - Gradle Plugins: Consider using plugins like "application" or "shadowJar" to build a standalone Karate runner jar. 2. Karate Feature Files: - Create `.feature` files to define your AWS cloud testing scenarios using the Karate DSL. - These files should contain steps for interacting with AWS services like S3, EC2, DynamoDB, etc., using AWS SDK calls. - Remember to configure AWS credentials (e.g., access key, secret key) in your Karate environment through environment variables or Karate features. 3. Gradle Tasks: - Define Gradle tasks in your `build.gradle` file to run your Karate tests. - Use the `karateRun` task provided by the Karate plugin to execute your `.feature` files. - You can configure these tasks to specify test data, environment variables, and output reports. 4. Sample Code: Here's a basic example of a Karate feature file testing an S3 bucket creation: ``` Feature: Test S3 Bucket Creation Background: * def bucketName = 'my-test-bucket-' + karate.getEnv('RANDOM_ID') * def credentials = karate.getEnv('AWS_CREDENTIALS') Scenario: Create S3 Bucket * Given url 's3.amazonaws.com' * And path '/' * And header 'Authorization', karate.auth('AWS4', credentials) * When method PUT * And uri path + bucketName * Then status 200 * And print karate.response * And karate.match response.key, bucketName * # Additional assertions on bucket properties AfterScenario: * karate.call('deleteBucket', bucketName) ``` This is just a starting point, and you can tailor your features and tasks to your specific AWS testing needs. Remember, the key is to understand your AWS testing requirements and use Karate's powerful features to build efficient and maintainable automation scripts.
