The expression in this is amazing! I truly love how every character comes to life and has their own voice. I'm in ASL 4 and I wish I could have this amount of expression.

The difficulty depends on how much work you put into learning the language. If you keep up with signing, watch Deaf signers here then it should not be too difficult. It also depends on the professor you have. I have had very lax and very strict professors; the strict ones are the ones you learn the most from.

I love how even though I am just learning basic signs right now, I am still able to understand enough signs to know the basics of the story. Love this channel and all these videos. Keep up the great work.

That was amazing! Each bear was different, and I didn't even have to know a lot of signs to understand it. He told the story with his face!! Love it.

I know this is a pretty old video but I'm watching it because in our ASL I class we have to read out a fairy tale and I wanted to see some examples so I could know what kinds of things I should be doing. I thought it was very interesting how many actual signs you omitted and rather just used general gestures, like eating the porridge by making your hands look like you were holding the spoon and bowl. Also the expressiveness. I don't know how much I'm cut out for being that expressive, given that I'm autistic and I really struggle with that sometimes, but I'm gonna try my best.

Yes! In storytelling (and normal conversation too!), classifiers (the gestures you were talking about) really help describe the narrative. Instead of signing "goldilocks sunk into baby bear's chair" word for word, it is easier and much more descriptive to use classifiers that describe the way goldilocks sinks into the chair. One of my favorite aspects of ASL.

Thank you! Super helpful video for my second-year university ASL class's final assignment where we have to choose a fairytale to retell in ASL!
