Despite being a mythic raider on retail (mostly on expension launchs) I've been having a blast in classic raids, the character progression and wanting to get the loot is just so much fun the boss fights being much simpler doesn't make it bad

Classic raiding you can afk half the fights, and there’s really only 3 mechanics per boss Retail raiding just looks cooler and keeps you stimulated during fights. So it’s either you like to gamble for your loot or wait 3-4 months to get completely geared from raid (2-3 item drops per boss in a 40 man raid)

Yep exactly, at that is in a honest sharing loot guild, i still remember my shady GM back in the days secretly promising items to his friends and to the only girl in the raid. I think that the gambling system might be better but atleast when you got an item it's yours and the gearing is much faster you know ? I can't just stop laughing when people say '' yeah back in the days raiding was muuuuch harder than BFA '', and after that, i remember that Azshara Heroic have more mechanics than the whole MC bosses. I think that retail is good for people who don't have like 8-10 hours day to spare to the game, classic is good for people who can play an insane amount of time to get '' competitive '' gear.

Retail raids are an overly complex mess visually. Clean the game up visually and it’s be fun. It’s an absolute mess and mythic means you have make WoW a part of who you are with how much time you invest. Like it or not, ppl choose not to play even if they want to bc they know the top of the mountain is completely unreasonable for 95% of ppl.

Classic WoW feels like a "retail" iteration of "vanilla". This isn't because the game is different. This is because the people are different. Classic has been out, like what... two months? People were blasting through Molten Core and Onyxia the second they had enough 55's. It's common to see a guild push up to at least Ragnaros on their first raid, and a ton actually clear the entirety of the Raid in one go. It's not the same "classic" experience. Back then, we needed fire-resistance. I have a set of fire resistance gear, just because I wanted to stay true to the experience, but I'm one in a handful of people on the server that actually farmed, kept, or crafted fire resist gear. Some raid guilds would even request their members either farm, buy, or ask GM for Fire-resistance potions. People would mind-control the mob outside BWL for the hidden fire-resistance buff. Now, there's none of that. What about dungeons? People "reserve" loot. This never existed in Vanilla. If you lost a roll on something you needed, guess what? You had to run it again until you got it. I'm fine with a tank reserving one item, but on my server, literally every one of these faggots reserves loot for their replaceable dps roles. People LFM for shit like UBRS where half the fucking loot table is "reserve". The sad thing, people are stupid enough to join these groups. Back then, if you wanted to "reserve" loot - you invited everyone that couldn't roll on what you wanted. I.E HoJ farming with say a tankadin, resto druid, a mage and warlock. People min/maxed the living shit out of the game, removing any purpose for having a lot of classes. While classes like Rogues and Hunters are made obsolete by other classes, in terms of versatility and usefullness, other classes like Warriors, and Mages remove the need for other classes. Leveling? Open your eyes, On my server I'd say more than 20% of players are Mages. Mage leveling was made extremely mainstream/toxic. I could go do a level appropriate quest, say... kill 10 mobs. Get 3% exp for turn in, plus mob kill exp. Overall, let's say 7% exp. In that time span, most mages aoe pulling will leave your questing in the dust. Power leveling was completely removed from the game, despite it being a true part of the classic experience. Look. I hated it. I think it took away from hitting 60, but you have to acknowledge it was there. I want to help my friends hit 60. I can't do that because they get 1% exp for me clearing all of SM for them, at lvl35. WoW classic isn't the same vanilla experience. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I love having fun with my friends, and looking for pre-raid bis, etc. I love most of the game. I'm an ex-high warlord. I have a 60 Rogue, and I plan on leveling a tank to 60. That being said, I don't feel the need to lie to myself and call this the "true" classic experience. It's not. You want the true classic experience? Go farm Fire resist gear. Go join groups w/ group loot, win your loot, lose your loot, re run the dungeons for the loot you lose, quest, dungeon, and kill grind to 60. Shit, I'd even go as far as to say uninstall your fancy UI's and install basic UI's. I'm a huge fan of Elvui/MerathilusUI but I would delete it if I were trying to get the complete classic experience. Just my two sense.

dollahbill510 if you expected classic to be the same experience as vanilla, you were fooling yourself from the start. Vanilla was different simply because for 2/3 of its lifespan, everyone was basically a noob. Well, we aren’t noobs this time. We know how to run dungeons, we know how to spec, and we know how to level efficiently. Also, we are running on 1.12. It was known from the beginning that MC and most of BWL when it comes will be trivial at best. If you are coming back to classic, you are coming for the nostalgia, not the experience or the difficulty of it. This has been known throughout the many years that people were play on private servers. It was always going to be like this. To believe otherwise was pure and simply ignorance.

Both are great. classic feels more traditional grindy but finally beating that boss you keep wiping on retail feels great. I love the competitiveness of raids, pvp and dungeons in retail but the grind and loot system of classic.

The thing that's terrible about this video, is that between UbRS MC, BWL, Zul Gurub, AQ20, Aq40, and Naxx. Each raid is a giant step forward in polish and technical expertise. Like I'm just waiting for people to Twin Emps. Or Cthun with 40 people. And then see them do Heigans dance, then look back to a fight like Garr or Ragnaros and see how mobility started to play a role. How personal responsibility crept into the mechanics.

They had Individual Responsibility in Classic Wow as well, where if you went for achievements or other such for mounts and such you would end up in Northrend screwing up the timing on the three dragons for the mount. All boss fights involve Individual Responsibility the issue is, that it started in Northrend.

A word about cosmetic progression. This is also a difference of the time periods in which the games were played. Classic wow was played when the MMO genre was exploding, when you saw cool gear you usually didn't even know where it came from, but TBH the only real accomplishments are legendaries in classic now. It is no where near as hard as it used to be to raid because getting into the guild was 80 percent of the challenge back then, it's just a time investment. Classic is just a different game for a different player. Retail serves a need and i'm happy it's around, i was around for classic and raided hardcore back in the day and i have no desire to relive that. However it is interesting to see it playing out with the vast amount of MMO experience the general player has now a days.

Cosmetic progression is so damn important in an mmo as discussed in the video. The feature that ruined it all was Transmog, i hate it to the fucking bone. Not only did it kill cosmetic progression and rpg aspects, it also removed any excitment of getting new gear. Transmog turned the game into fucking fashion contest with everyone walking arounding like a glowing power ranger. You're suppose to look good if u have earned it, by that it means killing hard raids / high rated arena etc.

@@bubbashepherd1843 I don't understand what people mean when they say that getting gear in the current game isn't rewarding. Is the powerspike as massive? Not really but there is character growth and my character being able to jump from 10k dps to 40 is huge growth. Players like asmon constantly talk about 'you cant get the best gear in the game' because that means you have to get a titanforge with proper stats and a socket. Okay but to be honest do you really NEED that? Are you still doing 50k+ dps and still participating in endgame content that challanging that nobody else does? I think what you want is a community to show this gear to. Right now in retail the only community you have is your guild and they are almost all on the same playing field you are and nobody cares because everyone is apart of their own clique. I think if you released retail with no LFR or LFG that was isolated from the other servers you could have the same experience.

This is not how classic wow is at all, ppl will be running MC even when nax is out because there is still relevant gear in MC even tho its the first available raid in the game. For me Retail vs Classic is pretty much like this: Retail item system Classic everything else. Unfortunately item system in WoW matters so much that it makes Retail pretty bad in general while it is not enough to make Classic interesting for me since it lacks in everything else and has the worst PvP ranking system I have seen in 15 years I play online PvP games and that is awful for me since I am a PvP player :Z. Well I am looking forward to TBC/Wotlk Classic since it has both good item system and skill based PvP ranking system but till then neither of the WoW live versions is worth the sub money for me sadly :(.

so you know, even in progression, i consider blackhand equivalent to one of the easiest fights in ffxiv. if you want balls to the wall challenge, you go for end game ffxiv savage and ultimate raids. wow is still really fun though and i love it. but i love the insanity of ffxiv

Individual responsibility is 99% of the difficulty in mythic. For example, Mythic Varimathras in legion. It's such a simple boss (mechanic wise). But you know for damn sure 1 fucker would simply walk to close to someone or walk to late and it's instant wipe. And because it's individual + RNG, You could be the best at it but some random dude keeps getting debuff and fucking up.

Raiding is Raiding. war never changes onyxia wipe animation is just that, and it's the first time anyone knew lady prestor was a fuckin dragon momma who wan't us to cull the onyx dragonflight, which may or may not include garnet dragonkin raiding in classic wow is identical to vanilla in 0.5 but we're at 1.13 where BRD is the end game. Onyxia is tier 2, ragnaros is tier 2. molten core is 40-man BRD via conga line dungeon companion is on archive dungeon companion 2 has Naxx Bestiary SHOULD have armor and resist values for 4H

Lucky for him, hes wow famous so someone will be willing to carry him and give him gear, but for us normies we actually have to EARN our gear...so the responsibilities actually make it so you have to be wary, you have to pay attention, you have to actually TRY to be good at the game. Which, comes with the reward of better gear, as it should be. Better players should get better gear.

1º The quest to be able to get in the raids are fun.. the first time.. fucking shit when u remember about that when u playing an alter. The quest are not fun at all, they are only a stupid requirement that dont care a shit. they have good loot yes, but u have to do the same fucking "joke raid" like 3 times. In retail, in this raid for example we have to do a questchain too very more interesting and fun to get in the raid..

In retail you can literally TMOG anything. From a pos green to best in slot. obtaining items just felt more meaningful back in vanilla days

Not really, Naxx isn't much harder then normal modes right now. By the point Naxx comes out, were going to be decked so hard with AQ40 gear its just going to be face rolled pretty hard.

Hard disagree on like 90% of this - guy is just backsolving for why he's already mentally committed to saying classic is some magical better game. It isn't, its systems were worse, and the entire game is stubbing your toe on multiple clunky onerous systems of loot, travel, low server tickrate, etc. I hate the cognitive dissonance forcing all these content creators to keep saying classic is better. It's not, it's a fun short diversion down memory lane and that's the end of it.

I personally think he was being rather objective all things considered which he is usually really good at and that is refreshing. I loved classic back in the day, but now? Im bored out of my mind everything I feels pointless and tedious. When that is said there seems to be alot of people who really seem to enjoy classic and if they truly feel its the better game then im not one to say they're wrong.

Retail also has flying, so that removes a lot of the social things like travelling to a raid together.

For me the game started to go downhill was when they decided to simplify it. I remember the satisfaction from getting attuned for Karazhan. You first had to complete every dungeon in the expansion on heroic difficulty in "Burning Crusade" to get that key into Karazhan. Once you had finished Karazhan you could then do Gruul and get the key for Serpentshrine Cavern ect. Taking this out to make it easier was a really bad move and took away a lot from the game. People simply weren't ready in terms of skill or gear to enter dungeons and that made it even more important to be a part of a community and build and maintain those relationships.

Donjon in retail = everybody pull mobs and tanking doesn't mean shit anymore. Hell ! everything is the tank's fault, too slow, ignorant of the strats etc. etc. in retail even a DPS can tank. i don't raid, so i can't speak of it much. but donjon became rush and no fun at all (from a tank point of view).

@@Drekulviin Thats definitely true but saying taking doesnt matter as a whole in retail is just factually wrong if you do current contet or if you do higer end content. If you dont and just do regular mythics then those are made for gear levels that are about to be 1 year old, so thats like saying tanking doesnt matter in classic because your AQ40 geared group has no issues with doing BRD. At least with the M+ system dungeons will always be relevant and they are infinitely difficult if thats what you prefer.

Asmongold, one thing he is NOT consistent on... RETAIL IS HARDER THAN CLASSIC. ( 2 months of classic release) CLASSIC IS WAAAAAAY HARDER THAN RETAIL! ( We allllllllllllll know , those that have played Classic till now, Classic is HORRIBLY HARDER, ZERO FLOOR TELEGRAPHING. Mods, were SO POPULAR, Blizzard adopted them as actual game aspects. Seriously? The community literally started steering WoW, when are you all gonna see this ? YOU CAN'T , because 90% of you, did NOT start in Vanilla, they all quit, once "Panda-Disney will hopefully buy our Kung-Fu Panda" - land came out .... come on peeps ... WoW is DEAD. Hence the RESURGENCE OF CLASSIC. It's a solo game now, with friends as optional. LFR was it's last nail in the coffin. Progression is no longer organic, but mechanical. Because of the E-Sports aspect. That's what REALLY brings in the cash .... Competition is always a capitalist dream ..... Hence sports in Las Vegas....
