So uhh she did a blindfolded run, then some guy called her out and showed that she faked it, then she promised to prove it wasn't, so then she made a video showing how it was real but then many actual speedrunners made their own videos proving it was fake and then karl jobst investigated it so here we are. You guys are all missing an important feature in MHW. Theres a game setting to change the camera mode to target camera. With a single button press the camera will auto focus on the monster. I agree with everything Karl said apart from the camera issue. L1 on controller will immediately have my camera face the monster, R3 does the lock on, not sure what the pc version is. I never lock on and no matter where my camera might be facing (up, down, away from the monster) the minute i hit L1 it goes in to focus on the monster. So the vertical camera thing Karl said was sus, was exactly the focus.

The actually biggest tell is in her 2nd blindfold run, at the end after she defeats the monster and after she takes off the blindfold (her screens are also covered with paper), she looks to her right then does a massive camera sweep to re-adjust the camera so that it's perfectly looking at the front of her character, like a posed celebration shot. From this it's very clear that there was a 3rd monitor she was looking at through a fake blindfold the whole time. Oh yeh, and when she pulls up the paper from her screen you can briefly see it doesn't show exactly what the screen that the viewers see. She panics slightly makes a few clicks then the screen changes to what the audience sees.

Real blindfolded players normally don't. Its common for them to have their chair turned so they face away from the screen with the camera showing that they aren't facing a 2nd screen or something. People actually putting in the time to learn to do this don't want to have it invalidated by giving people any reason to be skeptical.

you can also just put something in front of your face, like cardboard or a stand or literally anything. if you were facing it at the same angle, it would be far harder to cheat that way. people obstruct their vision with physical objects when streaming, it’s not terribly uncommon

After eye surgery I had when I was 18, I was basically blind for 3 month. I can tell you, even walking outside of my fucking room, which I did my whole life, so more than 4000 times(!), it was impossible to just to it without any "set ups". She is doing it from one second to another with a "oh lets try blindfold". This is so bullshit. Yes we have other senses, but we are like 80-90% reliant on eye sight. Take away that, we are so bad at EVERYTHING. No muscle memory in life will help you, since you have to retrain when you are blind, since everything is different. To just play a blindfold run, without prep is like the biggest lie you can ever do. EVERYONE should know it's impossible to just do it. Just honestly close your eyes and try to not run into a wall or door when you move through your house. I mean, you all have done it millions of times. Can't be that hard right? And yet she does it in a fictional world, without the sense of feeling something, smelling or anything else. Just "hearing" while alerts and stuff are on. Ludicrous. Disrespectful. Shameful. Conclusively showing that the first run was faked is sufficient, since she maintained that her first run was legit and the second one was just to further solidify it. The idea that she faked the first run but not the second run is ridiculous. They were such a short time apart, and she never said 'sorry guys, I cheated on the first one, but then I trained day and night and now I can do it legit'. If I told you I was a bowler who bowled 10 perfect games while blindfolded, you wouldn't need to watch the recordings of all 10 games and disprove every single one to determine if I was lying; disproving one would be enough.

I'm not trying to convince folks her run was real - she certainly could have pre-recorded it - but to everyone who is trying to use camera-related arguments to debunk her: Learn how the camera controls and lock-on work in Monster Hunter first. Every single argument I've seen for this so far is one that can be easily refuted by the fact that MHW has a button that resets the camera's position. In her 2nd run you can see on the inputs that whenever she presses the "alt" button, the camera swings around behind her. Karl says she never uses the camera reset button, but he's just wrong, plain and simple. I think he's making that assumption because alt isn't the default button for it, but obviously she just reassigned it. The argument about her adjusting the camera every time she uses the item menu might sound compelling if you're unfamiliar with the game, but for me it instantly fell apart because I have the exact same muscle memory - you close the menu and then press the camera reset button instinctively. It is not evidence that she can see the screen. If you can find an instance of her doing this when her button inputs indicate she did it with the mouse instead of pressing alt to reset the camera, _then_ you have compelling evidence. As for her not using lock-on, you need to understand that lock-on in Monster Hunter does not work the way it works in other action games. It does not affect where your attacks will land, it ONLY impacts the camera. In MHW, by default, locking on to a monster causes the camera to constantly follow the monster. Experienced players turn this off immediately, which means that lock-on instead will change how the camera-reset button works: single tap to center the camera on the monster, double tap to center it behind your character (or vice versa if you prefer). The thing Karl says about lock-on making it impossible to target the head is bunk - just ask any hammer main. As for why she's not using lock-on if it only affects the camera, I can only speculate, but if it were me I probably wouldn't use lock-on because 1) I wouldn't have visual confirmation of where my camera recentered to. Did the game count that input as a double-tap or as two separate single-taps? Not using lock-on removes such ambiguity - you know that every time you press alt, the camera moves behind you, and it never does anything else. 2) If the monster is in the air, or flying across the arena when I hit the camera button, now I've put my camera at an awkward angle without realizing it and I don't know where my character is pointed in relation to the monster anymore. 3) Moving toward the monster and recentering the camera behind yourself serves the same function anyway. 4) And if you're thinking "well obviously she'd be using the auto-center style lock-on for consistency", the reason everyone turns that off is because it doesn't actually make things easier. Always moving in relation to the monster can be a huge pain in the ass if, like Alatreon, it is constantly moving back and forth across the arena while you're trying to dodge a bunch of floor effects. Look at Super Mario 64 for example, runners have gone through so many steps to create concistent setups, regardless if you can see or not, like get in a corner, punch 1, hold right for x amount of seconds. I for example for over 11k hours in FF14, no way in hell can I do a dungeon or a boss blindfolded, I might bullshit my way through it, of course, but the chances of me getting through it alive is extremely unlikely. (I could unsync it and I can't die anymore, but that defeats the purpose, that's just "hold any direction till you think your stuck and hold another 1 and pray you get through it"

The main problem I have with "blindfold runs" like this is that it seems to be the wrong kind of game in which it's possible. For a blindfold run to work, you need to know where you're going, how many steps it takes, how much time it takes, when to turn, how much to turn, etc ... There also needs to be some kind of static or known element to each section. There is no way in hell that a section as random as this can be completed blindfolded. I'm waiting for Karl's video to drop. My theory is a simple one. The second run was pre-recorded.

Well, to be honest, even if it could be done, it would need to be practiced probably at least 10,000 times. You don't just one day decide to do it blindfolded and BAM! that was easy.

@@elasmojones Theoretically, you could do it quite quickly in some games, where levels are a known quantity. You'd just have to memorise moves and time taken or steps taken. If you know a level off by heart then you just go through it, counting everything and then memorising it. It obviously helps if you have a good memory but, yes, practicing the level blindfolded and then working out where you're going wrong would build up that memory and the muscle memory to go with it. It's like trying to practice a heavy metal solo on a guitar. Just cut it up into chunks and learn each chunk before putting it all together.

Years ago, I made a claim that I could beat(1st place) my friends in a half-life deathmatch blindfolded. What ended up happening was, I looked every time I respawned for a few seconds. And 2-3 minutes into the game, I realized it was straight-up impossible to do so. So, I went with something like 2 seconds closed eyes, 1 second opened eyes. After all, once I saw someone on the screen, I could flick land the shot. My final score was likely half of what I would have gotten normally. That day, I understood that it did not matter how much I had played the game, blindfolded was a completely different game. Even with 30% uptime, I could not touch my normal performance. I immediately thought it was very telling, not using auto-focus. Even if your attacks need to land at the head, should use it to get close and orient yourself. You can detach and attack diagonally (on some sort of sound cue) to hit your target. Blindfolded runs are very methodical and mechanical.

In order for Wirtual, a Trackmania speedrunner, IN A DETERMINISTIC GAME WITH NO VARIANCE, to do a blindfolded run on the last endurance race of the game, he had to develop multiple strategies to have the consistency to even ATTEMPT the run in the first place. And it still took a considerable amount of time and effort. Karl is right, there is no universe in which she has the literal superpower to do this. Not in a million years. yeah, Karl mentions target lock to identify boss location. And I've not played this game in particular, but there are absolutely other ways to target enemies in games blind. manipulating their position, or yours for example. like, you aggro an enemy, and run in 1 direction, so it follows you. well, you know where it is now, even blind. Corners, and other walls, etc can be used to orient yourself blind. if attacking a wall makes a sound, you can tell where you are. in theory you could be using tricks like this.. but she also blatantly is not doing anything like this.

I would defend the turning of the head. thats not proof. your ears are on the side of your head. if you are focusing on something via sound, you turn your head into it. now, you may say headphones, that doesn't actually do anything. sure, but muscle memory. The other factor here is that "looking up and to the left" thing when people are using their minds eye to imagine /remember something. when you are trying to envision something in your head, you tilt your head. now, again, sure her head is kindof facing the wrong way for that.. it should be to the left, not right. but in the end, I would not use that as proof. my guess without actually watching her recording would just be pre-recorded footage.

​@@Cassandra112 no you don't turn your head when focusing on a sound from a game without any vision, generally you just trying to sit comfortably, i know because i've done a couple of autopilot farming in a certain game with one hand without looking (which i've played for mid 30k hours) while gaming on my android or watching series, whenever you hear a certain sound or a lack of sound - you simply move your character's attack to all the other directions one by one till will find your target (you may look silly in the game while you are doing that i bet but it's the fastest way i found when there's people around you), your head itself will remain stationary, moving head too much will only distract & potentially will kill you it goes like this - "sound is not happening, something's wrong, trying to find the target" , or "the sound went from there, i'll just keep attacking into that direction with some movement till will eventually hit the thing" while can keep playing on android with another hand or keep watching series with that said i am not a blindfold runner, never attempted any game with that, and don't want to as that will take thousands of hours per game on top of any amount of hours which person already has, her 4000 hours blindfold-less are not even close to pass with "6th try blindfold win gg ez" and to go with "gg ez game gonna blindfold the whole game from now on" right after is just insulting for real blindfold runners i really think that 4k is nothing but maybe that's due to my mid 30k, which also are nothing to attempt a blindfold run, like, one has to put thousand of hours into blindfold run on top of his current playtime, it's very different i am with you guys though, knew that her runs are fake

I just saw a little detail that may be important (or not, I really don't know). In the first blindfolded run, she has the head kinda tilted down. In the second, where the screen is covered with a paper, her head is tilted up. If you put the two videos side by side you can actually see the difference. That could mean that in the first she was looking at her normal screen and in the second she was looking to a screen put on top of the normal one that does not appear in the "proof" cam.

But yeah, if there had been scenes of angling attacks off the centre of camera I'd be more inclined to believe (the runs are still rubbish, though) but constantly having the camera being perfectly centered on the monster every time speaks more to looking through a vaguely see-through material and needing the visual clarity. If someone's hearing and/or headphones are good enough, paired with the aural spacial perception needed to know precise distance and angle, surely you'd be able to piece that information together without it being directly in front of you 100% of the time, right? Think a little on how the mechanism would work to assume that was nefarious: the mod would have needed to know about the original blindfold being an issue & her having tampered with it for the flashlight test and mod would have needed to read comment live and make the connection. Or it could simply be the mod blanket timing out comments that seem critical or some automated timeout mechanism that works on keywords. I find the latter much more likely.

@@jakej1837 If the mod is doing their job, they ought to know the original blindfold was an issue considering the entire reason she's bringing it out on stream is to show that it's not. Now suppose two scenarios here: she wasn't cheating and is showing the blindfold to prove it. Someone is suspicious because the way she's demonstrating it doesn't actually prove it's legit and is asking her to demonstrate it properly. The mod bans the user because the mod apparently has no idea wtf they're doing, and that's the kind of people she gives mod powers to. It still makes her look suspicious because she empowered that mod. As I said with the relationship between the employer and employee, if the employee does stupid things on the job that reflects badly on the employer. In the second scenario she is cheating. The person is calling her out for the same reasons. The mod bans the person because he either believes whatever she says uncritically and is offended anyone would further question her, or he knows she's cheating but wants to be in her good graces. Either way doesn't remove the fact the timeout is suspicious.

@@realitytripz6998 I'm not defennding her. I'm agreeing with the original commentors point, that playing playing blind is a completely whole different beast. I got around 200 hours on mh world and even tried to fight a monster blind. And yup like alot of people suspected, it's more difficult then u can imagine. I've been gaming since I was 7 Btw. People just need to try it themselves to see how difficult it is. The fact that she could do the things she did is definitely impossible with just a few attempts. I don't think it's even possible to have her precision and accuracy in terms of camera, movement and attacks to the head even if you're an expert with countless hours. Even expert speed runners agree with, thats why they use lock on. Half the time I couldn't even tell if monster was to the right or left, let alone be able to pinpoint it's head accurately. Especially when the monster is always on the move. Mh world has probably the best Ai for monsters and no way u can do half the things she did blind. She didn't even use lock on. People don't understand that digital sound doesn't work the same way as real life. Digital sounds are programmed and designed by people. They don't emulate real life at all. Game creators don't program their sounds to emulate real life because there's no need to. It would just be a waste of resources. Therefore they are less precise, even if u got expensive head phones

Play like that for a while until you get a good feel for how much it takes, in travel time, to go from top to bottom. Let's say, you move your mouse 4cm from the bottom, you reach the top. At ANY point, you can then move you mouse up or down by MORE than 4cm and you know for a fact that you're either looking up at 20° or down at 20°. You also know that 4cm will bring you to the bottom/top and if you divide it by 2, you're roughly centered. Or maybe it's even simpler than than: notches on the mouse pad and make sure you never do any harsh movement. Personally I don't know this Pwnz girl tbh, I just like blind speed runs and one thing we can all say for sure is that in sports etc. we've seen people do incredible feats when athletes of the same caliber are unable to. In my sport you'll see top athletes using ''unorthodox'' techniques to come out on top and often are criticized from the rest or even accused of cheating such as doping the horse etc. (talking about showjumpers) when in reality they're not, everyone gets drug tested before competitions.
