what i love about this (other than it being absolutely a spiritual successor of Metroid 1) is the no reason the esoteric nature of this game. I may have no idea what the fuck is going on at any point but figuring out the movement and discovering the ways to cheese through feels like exploring a lost jungle, (oof I'm slow- that's environmental theming) it's this challenge of adventure and taking it all in. It's such a good homage old 80s pixelated games, because even though it's got that learning-curve frustration at times like those 80s games, it's the overcoming obstacles that makes it satisfying. it's nice. It's like he says at the end, it's like dark souls- the game's about the overcoming of obstacle, just not with enemies like Dark Souls, but overcoming the world itself. it really makes me want to see what further innovations of movement this game has. I Love that feeling when you get good enough to maintain momentum with all the quirks of the abilities in these kinds of games and i'd like to see Asmon continue this but i'm 100% going to try this out for myself, this looks like a damn great game.
