if anyone has never tried tteok, or korean rice cakes, they’re very soft and chewy. they don’t have much flavour on their own, but if you eat tteokbokki (tteok is the rice cake, bokki means fried; i don’t know the exact translation, but think of it as the tteok and then bokki as the sauce) they taste so much better. the sauce is spicy and a little sour, but in a good way, and the rice cake balances out the spice and tones the flavour down. their texture is great! someone said they’re like thick noodles, think udon noodles but a lot thicker still, but they’re much chewier and not quite as soft. if you ever get to, you should definitely try korean rice cakes! i hope you enjoy them~ edit: if you’ve ever had gochujang paste, the sauce is made up of that. spicy, sweet and sour!
