What exactly is ASMR? I know the sound part...but then the whispering? Which just unsettles me. Then in the new Ben 10 they give a very spaific ASMR example that is just positive affirmations from an involved parental figure. No whispering. I think the show might've gotten it wrong

@@samrobacker346 ASMR is a response. It means "autonomous sensory meridian response" which is just a fancy way to say "feel good brain tingles". If someone says something gives them ASMR it means it gives them a pleasant tingly feeling/is relaxing/is satisfying. ASMR can also mean anything made with the intent to trigger ASMR in other people. It's kind of confusing, but it's like two different nouns: one is the response, and one can be content made to trigger the response. So ASMR isn't necessarily caused by whispering, but it's popular for people to whisper in ASMR videos because they're trying to encourage relaxation and tingles. ASMR creators speak softly or whisper so we can be calm or even sleep to their videos. There are some videos where people just speak normally. So positive affirmations that aren't whispered can totally 100% cause ASMR.
