Update from a sad Medic. About half an hour since full time... Spain were better... unsurprisingly. But man, it hurts. Proud that we are a nation that can make finals - but it just feels like it means almost too much to the nation and to the players. Teams like Spain, Italy, France, Germany, they've won it all. We are chronic losers. If Spain lost this final, they would obviously be devastated, but culturally and deeply emotionally I think they could take it on the chin a lot easier than we can. For us, it seems there's always just so much more riding on it. The years of hurt that just keep ramping up. We've (Southgate, really) done exceptionally well to break many curses - such as beating big teams in big games, winning on penalties. But still, the ultimate curse remains, and that is that at the end of the day, when it matters most, England lose. I'm in an emotionally low spot, obviously. We didn't 'deserve' to win, whatever that means. But still it hurts.

I think that England would have a much better chance if Southgate replaced Kane with Toney or Watkins. That sounds blasphemous given how great Harry Kane is, but his style of play doesn’t fit the rest of the squad. Foden and Saka need a striker who will stay in the box and occupy the Spanish defense.

I agree - and I think that'll be easier when Kane is no longer captain/no longer the 'best' striker. But you cannot drop your captain and a striker that has been as dominant as he has over the years. Regardless, we improved when he went off. But the result was the result

@@TheASMRMedic spain did it to a certain degree with grimaldo, has been on the form of his life all season, getting shouts for best lb in the world, and due to him not fitting in the Spain system (hes too attacking, more of a wingback when Spain needs a more defensive minded fullback) he was benched the large majority of the tournament, it takes a manager with personality to manage a nation with stars and I think that is where England lacks, look at Deschamps too, these succesfull nations have managers that dont exhibit favoritism and who arent pushovers
