I love hearing your perspectives on life things it’s refreshing. I used to be an avid reader until my 20’s. Now my attention span is so bad (ADHD inattentive plus social media has shortened my attention) that I don’t read books anymore. I’ve tried to recently but it’s hard to even read several pages at once. Less social media is what I’ve been trying to do, too. Its for the best.

Legit its so interesting to listen to your rambles in your videos, it’s really like talking to a friend. You telling us about getting into reading again for example, so cool! if you’ve got time then 10 could be a nice number to aim for (i guess, tbh i wanna start reading again too bc I haven’t since I was younger but I’m just so busy right now..)

snacks i like: -raw almonds or pecans with chocolate chips -carrot sticks/peppers/other veggies, with guac(!!) or hummus -sliced apples with peanut butter (the kind with just roasted peanuts and salt lol) -plain Greek or Turkish yogurt with a little bit of honey -plain soy yogurt with sliced banana (idk if you wanted healthy snack ideas or what, but these ended up all being really healthy for some reason lol)

For the snacking, I recommend meal prepping lunches for your 4-5 days on and taking a smaller “snack” with you each day as well (snack could be a sandwich with a fruit and some chips or something). Then maybe divide up your 12 hour shifts into thirds and eat either your snack or lunch (depending on how hungry you are) after 4 hours each. I’ve done this on some of my longer days at work and it not only makes lunch easy and hassle-free, but also saves you a TON of money in the long run. Spending $10-15 every shift adds up quickly.

I got back into reading this year too!! I used to read so much as a kid/teen but fell out in the last few years. But finding the reading community on tiktok has been so fun!! I think 20 books is probably a good goal. You could even start up a community reading club with your subscribers. You could have people suggest books and having other people to talk to about the books would encourage you to read as well. I got so into reading this year that I made a book Journal, which also lead to me being creative.

I so feel you on the shift work bit. Working 8 hours 5 days a week sucks for me. I hate the feeling of coming home at 6-7 pm and feeling like I have no free time at all, since I have to go to bed within 3 to 4h to not feel like a zombie the next day, and those 3 to 4h of free time feel wack since you're tired from work. I'd much rather just crunch through as much work in as few days as possible and then just have full days off to relax later.

Hey patty! I've been doing shift work for a few years now and I mostly do nights as well. I snack on a lot of veggies that I've prepped with hummus, I like the crunch. Popcorn is low cal as well. As for working out, I don't make it a priority when im on nights because its unrealistic for me! But I make sure to dedicate time for it on my days off. Hope this helps!

I think a goal of reading 10 books in a year is a great place to start! Making an achievable goal feels so much better than possibly becoming stressed out by not being able to complete a goal such as 20 books. After all, it's about the joy of reading-not the goal of reading. Finishing even one book is an accomplishment.

I’m an avid reader but my mental illness often makes it hard for me to pick up a book sometimes. While I sometimes set a “goal” number of books per year, I mainly just keep a list of the books I read on my fridge. I write the title, author, date I finished it. It makes me motivated to see the list grow, I recommend this maybe instead of picking a number of books for a New Years resolution :) thanks for the video patty! Jealous of your work schedule, the 5 day on 2 day off is so exhausting.

okay but those vans pants are legitimately life-saving. food service? retail? office? they're good for all of it. I also recently switched to shift work as well and I work 4 10 hour shifts in a row and I've got 3 days off. and you're so right! it really does just click differently in your brain. getting out of that M-F 9-5 grind has been a major mood boost. I was super stoked to get the notification for this video, thanks for the lovely ASMR :)

Nuts are high in protein and essential fatty oils but you can’t have too much. It’s usually a tablespoon per serving but it’ll help hold your hunger in check too. As far as books my friend just did 100 in a year. But she’s into that and she reads quick too. So do whatever you think is doable for you.

Also I do a protein shake and a meal right before I go in to work, helps hold off the cravings. Then I do another small meal around midnight and a snack around 3 am. Lots of peanut butter involved because it fills me up haha. It helps to spread them out but also gives me something to look forward to when I have specific times I eat. I have to practice self control and only bring in what I'm going to eat...any extras will be consumed 😂

I used to read one book a week (around 300 pages each) I'd just read whenever I got a chance, on my commune to school or work and on my breaks, also at night before bed. That's 4 books a month, which is 48 books a year. That's not very doable for most people, it's not even doable for me these days, but I do try to read, at least, one or two books a month now, so that's 24 books a year. I think that's a good amount, very doable even if you just make it a habit to read two chapters every night before bed.

Patty it's so good to see a new video from you!! You seem so much happier in this one. I'm glad post-college life is going great 😄 I'm still a lowly engineering student (in my fourth year now so nearly done!) and I am STRESSED about finals, so thank you for the reminder that grades aren't everything. Going to listen to this video again as I continue battling with my finite element analysis project.

I recently got into your channel. I actually saw the one with your roommates when you first posted it but didn’t think to subscribe. A couple weeks ago another one of your videos came up on my feed and I got excited to see it when I recognized it was you from the other video. You seem like a such a genuine and nice person. I really liked the ADHD one. I’m looking to officially get diagnosed through evaluation but haven’t yet just have been getting treated for it for a couple months. I like the fast paced nature of it because I can’t really watch the slower ones during the day and it helps me from getting distracted and zoning out. The commentary kind of rambling is also interesting and really conversational. I know you’re busy and probably would want to give yourself breaks with uploading even if you didn’t have anything else going on so no worries on the uploading schedule. It’s just a nice surprise when you do. I know this is a little niche but if you ever feel like it and it sounds interesting, I love the asmr crossword videos where you can see the page while the person works on it and reads it out. I know the things I have seen from you is more conversational so even just adding commentary for certain words, etc. No worries if not just a suggestion if you’re bored one day. Regardless, I look forward to your future videos. Congrats on the job!
