Hello everyone! Chelsey Coleman I literally live in England and I'm not stupid. It's normal to say "British accent" as most of Britain speak English, it is generalised and called a British accent. Even though in America they also speak English. But guess what, saying American accent by your terms is wrong too. In the south the accent is different to in the north. Just the same as Britain. That is why you say American accent right? It's a generalisation and its the same thing both ways.

When Americans/Canadians think of a ‘British Accent’, they’re almost always referring to the Received Pronunciation English accent (otherwise known as ‘posh southern’), they’re not talking about Scouse or Geordie. Although this is simply the consequence of us being more exposed to their cultural morés than vice versa, given how all-pervasive their exported popular media is.

Jay Mazella That's a strawman argument. I'm American and it's my impression that we refer to all kinds of accents in that region collectively as British accents. RPE is probably what we come across commonly---but that's the point of RPE isn't it?---so, that's what we'll most often try to impersonate; that's merely an artifact of what we're exposed to. If we hear a Scottish or Irish ascent and we can identify it as such, then we may use that term, though we may just call it British as well.

Yeah it's all over the place. Undesirable Number One isn't until Deathly Hallows because he is blamed for Dumbledore's death. And of course Sirius would have been gone before then and Harry, Hermione and Ron wouldn't even be at school.
