See, I remember being in Portugal in the late 90s, maybe early 2000s, I can't remember, and they still had the "escudo". It was just before they replaced it with the euro. Blink and you miss it. God knows how hectic that must've been, for an entire country to just replace a currency, just like that.

Great video but that book is totally wrong: the first form of money/currency was notched bones "tally sticks" dating back to the upper paleolithic, NOT gold/silver. It's an important distinction because it is crucial to view money inherently as debt, and thinking of it as a metal confuses the understanding of the entire concept.
