I love how quiet and professional this entire appointment is. I feel like, in the US, every hair stylist feels the need to carry on a conversation the entire time. It could be they feel pressure because others expect it, but I get social anxiety and hate being forced to small talk when I just want to relax. I'd feel so comfortable in a place like this one.

I feel you! When I changed barber due to moving places I told him upright that I dont like small takes but that it doesn't mean that I dont like him. Thats its just me thats prefers the silence during a shave. Ever since he really respects my wish and i've had the most relaxing barber visits ever. Dont be afraid to tell that you don't "want" to talk (I know its hard to do so), but give it a try. Your barber will know and i can alsmot guarantee you they'll understand.

@@wbi007 That's a good point! I'm usually fairly straightforward, but when I go to hair appointments I'm particularly shy to make it clear that I don't love being social. I'll have to try to gently say that next time 😅

When the hair stylist/ barber gets too into their conversations their skill level tends to drop and I have had a few times where they botched the haircut thanks to it. Most of the times when they are silent and just to their job, the final look is near exactly what I want.

so true. even in every restaurant in US they force a small talk that's totally not wanted. I just want to eat with no pressure, just want to enjoy my meal, haircut, massage, whatever
That last laugh is super cute. We need more of her.

I have huge respect for the People of Japan. They are so polite, organised and skilful. I also love their traditions and culture. I think I would enjoy a holiday in Japan. Maybe next year….😊

She is very talented. Her movements are so precise, yet she can put the power into her work as well. I would trust her with the straight edge, so careful!
