I'm from the UK and my whole family loves the Moomins! My mum (who is now in her 60s) is the biggest fan, and I still have the original copies of the books that she used to read when she was younger 💕 You can find multiple pieces of Moomin memorabilia in every room of her apartment too (A LOT of stuff in the kitchen particularly)! We even visited Helsinki a few years ago (which was beautiful) to see an exhibition of Tove Jansson' art, and I also bought my mum some bits and pieces from the Moomin stores when I visited Japan! If you haven't, I really really recommend finding the original Moomin books by Tove Jansson. They aren't very long, but the manage to be very touching. Tove really had a very profound understanding of what it is to be a human.

Moomin has been my special interest for close to 10 years so I got so excited when I got the notification for this video! Edit: I'm American and found out about Moomin on a trip to the U.K. years ago. Its definitely not as popular in the U.S. and the books and merchandise are just starting to become widely available here but even then its pretty limted/only in certain stores

I absolutely love the moomins, I grew up watching them and I read the books when I was a little older. I think it might be quite natural, being Finnish, the Moomins are our national treasures. The Moomin store in Japan is elite!! We have a Moomin store in Hawaii, but the stock is very limited. There's no snacks and the merchandise is mostly apparel or knick knacks like stickers or stationary. We do have location specific designs though! Love getting socks while traveling too by the way. On my last trip, I got sanrio socks at every cute store I stumbled upon. Saved me a lot of space in my luggage! 😂

Oh, the orange hattifattener mug has a pretty old design. I haven't seen those anywhere after I was younger and accidentally broke one of those mugs (it was my sibling's lol). I live in Finland and have quite a fascination with Moomin as a foreigner. I try to go to every Moomin store I can find, this one is definitely much bigger than any I have seen in Finland or abroad. I personally collect the tiny keychain characters and even gift them to loved ones to connect us 😅 Bedlinen by Finlayson are also really nice! I do have one of those Fiskars x Moomin scissors, I absolutely recommend them if you can get them, I have used them for years, put it into dishwasher and it's still bright and sharp as ever! Hope one day you get to travel to Finland to see all the fun Moomin things we have here everwhere, the Moomin museum is really fun with scenes built irl, illustrations from the books.

I'd say Moomin is reasonably popular here in the UK, but I might be biased because my boyfriend lives in Finland, so I get to hear about Moomin-related things a lot ahaha. Also, I could be totally wrong on this, but I've definitely seen people talk about it: there was a show in Japan called Yuru Camp (lit. "Lazy Camp") which showed off the fun people could have camping, and it was really popular. I've heard no end to tales of people camping purely from inspiration from that show, so I wouldn't be surprised if it become widely popular because of it. (side note; Yuru Camp is a fun show! I've only watched the first season, but it's very relaxing!)

My husband is from finland, we have a lot of moomin stuff in our house. It is still the most popular character in finland. We use the plastic plates mainly for childrens. The drawing on the cards are from the original moomin creator : a painter that wrote those books as early as 1946 !
