as someone who's born and raised in LA, everything you said is too true. it's so hard to live here and there are some veryyyy interesting people. america's health care system is so flawed on top of it all. i feel so sad you didn't have a good experience. i can reassure you that there are a lot of really cool places with nice people, even if it's hard to find. if you go again i hope you have a much better experience !!

Ocean- please don’t give up on LA! Native Angeleno here and yes, it has some difficult issues (like other major cities) and traffic can be miserable but it also has some of the most diverse, eclectic and interesting neighborhoods around. And, if you go to the right places, you’ll fall in love with the gorgeous natural beauty in our city and our adjacent cities.
