So these sounds are a thing people actually have a preference for? This is new to me... I must be the opposite. I find any sound, made in the mouth itself (other than whistling a tune) to be abhorrent. I grew up on a farm. I remember a particular evening's chores distinctly. I had laid the grain for 200+ sheep in a series of troughs down the center of the barn, then opened the gate at the far end, which opened into the central barnyard. They all poured into the barn and crowded in along the trough. As I was heading to the door opposite the one the sheep entered though, something made me pause and look back, from roughly the very end of the line of troughs. All the sheep were looking up at me and chewing their grain in unison. By some trick of the acoustics in the barn, the sound of their chewing seemed magnified. It seemed to flip some sort of "switch" in my mind. Ever since, "mouth-sounds" have been like "nails on a chalkboard" to me. It never occurred to me that there might be people who have the opposite reaction to those sounds. Very interesting.
