Interesting fact. Older buildings had larger window heights/floor height especially on the 16-20 story buildings back then that look massive, so while the beautiful Park Plaza hotel behind you in central park is not a supertall by any means, if you compare it to the art deco one across the street, 6 windows for the art deco building equals about 3 on the Park Plaza. And in DC, the main congress stretch on the left of the main lawns, are about 4 stories counting the top, but equal out to a 8 story building. So not only are cities known for their tall structures, but the very style of what makes that city atmosphere is the historical buildings anything from museums to hotels being insanely spaced out for only a few floors. Churches are a fantastic example of this, limited windows per floor and yet reaches the height of a 20 story building. You never realize how large every building is and how that Metropolitan atmosphere is made, feeling like ants down below these immeasurably tall structures, let alone buildings like the Empire State Building, Freedom tower, or the Nordstrom tower..supertalls by every means. Now why is this kid going on about height, well, fun fact, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world at a possibly jaw dropping floor count of 163 floors. But! every individual floor height is smaller than the average NYC building. So while I sit here seeing these tall Manhattan skyscrapers where even the 15 stories dominate the surrounding area, I realize the importance of height per floor, and remember that some of the tallest buildings around that world aren't as tall as they seem. Do with that information what you will. 😉
