Mary I just wanna say that as a southerner living abroad, I love coming to your channel and feeling at home. And especially that you're from NC and I'm from SC so the accents are exactly the same. Fun Fact : We have Aldi Nord ( North ) and Aldi Süd ( South ) in Germany. I Live almost on the Border of both. They have some different Products. The Reason why there is South & North ? Well, some say because of Family Issues, then there is some specualation that the Founders of ALDI - Theodor and Karl Albrecht ( Their last Names combined with the Word Discounter = ALbrecht DIscount- ALDI ) had different views on what they should sell - especially about Cigarettes, so the seperated in two groups. And others say this was a to make more Profit - which they made after the seperation in 1961.But nobody know for sure, because the Brothers almost never went public with anything until they died. Sorry for my bad englisch, im a German Potato :)

That's cool, we have Aldi in the US too and they are known for being good employers and they have great prices. A couple times of year they will import in stuff from the German Aldi. I love the pickled herring and the German cakes they have

I'm from the UK and I find it fascinating how different Aldi is in different countries. We have a few of the chocolate flavours but nowhere near the amount Elke sent you. The latte macchiato chocolate is my favourite 😋 enjoy tasting all the sweets!

I speak a bit of Norwegian because my family is from there and it's interesting to see how similar German and Norwegian are like using "Mandel" for almond.

All European languages including English which derived from Latin all come from the same language family and our original language originally came from Sanskrit. This is why many of European words are similar and why sometimes we can understand some foreign language words when reading them. There is I believe a couple non European languages that also come from our language family

OMG that is so much chocolate and the orange chocolate one I am seriously jealous I love orange chocolate. You're going to have to hide that box because of your kids see it it's all over, But I am really happy for you this is an amazing gift. It almost seems like all the over in Germany is like their version of Walmart for us here you know the super Walmarts where you can pretty much do everything from get your haircut to get a pedicure to pick up shampoo and clothes.

This was amazing, the crinkling and all packaging sounded great, with your voice just so relaxing : )) By the way, “bitter sweet” is just a funny google translate translation :P the german “Zartbitter” would be translated to dark chocolate. Plus, your way of saying Lidl is actually very very close to the way one says it in German and it’s nice of you to make the effort to look it up (as you did with Alzenau too). I mean, what can one do more then try and check? Everyone has a way they’re used to moving their tongue and mouth depending on what language(s) they grew up speaking and different ability in learning new pronunciations, dialects and accents, i sound completely lost trying to emulate a southern US accent (I can’t even do it with most german dialects) hahaha

Fun fact: in Austria Aldi is called Hofer and the logo is basically the same because half an A and half a H look the same. In Germany and Austria Lidl pronounced Lee-dl and in UK it’s pronounced Lid-l. My parents live in Austria so I always have to keep swapping which one I say 😂
