When my Grandma bought her land there was a house there. She said it was like the people who lived there vanished into thin air. Not only was all of their stuff still there, but there were plates on the table and you could even see the moldy food like they were Thanos snapped in the middle of dinner. It’s a family mystery who those people were and what happened to them. I’m so curious about this house too, especially considering the place was trashed

Happened to me. Bought a condo and did renovations and all. Barely lived there 3 months. Then things in my life changed suddenly and had to move to another country. Took only my clothes. Everything stayed in that old place. When I realised I will never move back there, I had an agent with the help of a lovely old lady who was my neighbour handle selling the place as is.

My mom and her husband (step dad) abandoned our childhood home. B of A had a backlog of thousands of mortgages because of various shady mortgage practices so they took advantage of that. I stayed behind in the house for a while. It sat for about 5 years, I took care of this beautiful house the best I could. All my memories from middle and high school were in that home, so many milestones, Christmases etc. It was my home. In 2017 I moved to NYC and would come back every few months to stay in and check on the house. My family left a lot of their stuff in the house. Furniture, mementos, pictures. In December just before I came back for Christmas, my dad who was also keeping an eye on the place called me and told me the bank finally came. They changed the locks and put keep out notices on the doors and windows. And that was that. Never set foot in there again.

It’s heart breaking. As a kid I remember the bank taking my childhood house and we had to leave so much stuff behind. We had to leave really fast and didn’t have the time or resources to bring everything with. Most times when things are left behind like this, it was a tragedy to the family that lived there.

That house is dated but unless there are hazards that would require unrecoverable expenditures, I can't imagine why it will be destroyed. I live in a historic community and see perfectly nice homes torn down on the regular because an affluent person wants a unique custom showpiece rather than a roof over the head. It's hard to rationalize scooping an entire livable home into the landfill.
