That’s how you do it. Patience combined with many thin layers polished smooth one at a time. Just like you do, I only concentrated on the toe, outside and heel. One of the materials I found better than any other for smooth layering that creates a high polish is a nylon sock wrapped in layers similar to your method. I never tried a silk sock material but I don’t shine my boots like that anymore. I can’t bring myself to spend 20 or 30 minutes on each boot to make them look like mirrors any more.

You have to admire the confidence of a man who is prepared to clean shoes in a white sweater - especially as he applies the polish with his fingers! I notice a few brown stains by the time he finished. Bet he doesn't do the washing in his house!

When you use saddle soap on clear shoes; the shoes tend to get darker for the water... can I begin the shoe polish routine right after applying the saddle soap or you think I should wait a little until the water dry out a little bit

Saddle soap on brand new expensive shoes... is that necessary and suitable? Saddle soap is for cleaning salt and dirt off of horse saddles.
